St. Viator Parish School
Viator Voice: February 24, 2020
Oh What a Night!
Last Saturday night, we honored Mary and Dan Miller (in loving memory) along with Jacki and John Miller; two couples who both dedicated so much of their time and talent to our school community. It was a beautiful event. Shout out to Pat Ellis, Maddie Gugino, Lulu Aiello, Laura Alcaraz, and the entire the Foundation Committee for their countless hours and dedication to make this year's Foundation Gala a huge success!
Welcome to the Visiting Committee!
On Monday, February 24, we welcome our Visiting Committee for the three-day visit portion of our accreditation process. We will introduce them to the student body at the morning assembly in the gym. Prior to their arrival, they spent time reading and rereading our Self Study.
Throughout the day, the ten-person Visiting Committee will visit classes and meet with students and our pastor. In the evening, they will meet with the School Board members and parent representatives. Tuesday and Wednesday they will continue with visits as they write their report, which will be completed on Wednesday.
The School Leadership Team will review the report, along with our pastor and the superintendent. It will be presented to the faculty and staff Wednesday afternoon. The final copy of the report will arrive within a few weeks and we will be honored to post it for the school community to review.
You can read all about the Accreditation Process by following the Link to Western Catholic Accreditation Association (WCEA) http://www.westwcea.org/.
To our St. Viator Community....
D.E.A.R. SVS students,
Nevada Reading Week is next week! In 1987, the Nevada Department of Education began a statewide initiative for Nevada teachers and librarians to celebrate reading through shared thematic activities. Nevada Reading Week usually coincides with the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Many of our local celebrities, parents and community members participate in the festivities by telling stories and reading to our students. The theme for 2019-20 is "Saddle Up & Read ". Please see flyer below for more information about each day.

How do you become a Good Sam?
Check out some of the reasons the above were chosen:
This student is a responsible citizen (SLE 4) who always volunteers in the classroom. He is willing to help in any capacity, doing it quickly and efficiently. When he notices someone struggling, he offers his help. He can always be counted on at all times.
This child is always helping and playing with her Micah classmate. She is patient and unselfish with her assistance to her.
This student consistently shows His love of learning and for the Lord. He follows the golden rule acting respectfully continually.
This boy exemplifies the second SLE: Lifelong Learner. He consistently works his hardest and truly tries to learn from every situation. It is evident he loves to learn! Not only is he very independent in his learning, he is fantastic about quietly helping his peers who he may notice needing a little extra help. Critical thinking skills are another strong area for him as he is always eager to try when presented with a new challenge.
This is a student who is a responsible citizen who makes good choices, he thinks before he acts and he helps and takes care of others. This can be seen in his actions with Honor Society, student government, and the Stellar Stallions program.
This student is always in a good mood and smiling when he is at school. He sees the best in everyone he meets. When asking for help, no matter what it is, he is always one of the first to volunteer. For these reasons and for having an attitude like Jesus his is our Good Sam.

At St. Viator, Learning Extends Beyond the Classroom
plan educational trips to provide learning experiences that supplement those of the classroom.
These educational trips range from attendance at theater performances, museums, historical
sites, nature preserves and other points of interest in the Las Vegas area.
Last week, our 5th graders visited the Valley of Fire, world-renowned for its 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in gray and tan limestone. Valley of Fire State Park contains ancient, petrified trees and petroglyphs dating back more than 2,000 years. A Visitor Center provides exhibits on the geology, ecology, prehistory and history of the park and nearby region. We love this quote from Sienna M in 5A: "I liked trying to find petrogylphs on our hike and trying to figure out what they mean" It was a great trip!
