What's been happening?

Reminder - Senior Pictures Rescheduled!

Parents of Seniors:

Due to circumstances beyond our control, senior pictures have been rescheduled for November 7-8! We apologize for the late notice.

Veteran's Day help needed (and mark your calendar):

LVHS is once again hosting the Veteran's Day Celebration on November 11. We are looking for donations of patriotic-themed decorations. You can bring them by the school or contact Steve Garcia at steve_garcia@lagovista.txed.net to arrange a pick up.

attendance rate!

Our weekly attendance goal is 96%.

Student attendance from 9/29/2016 - 10/13/2016 was 95.17%.

The attendance incentive for the rest of the nine weeks - Be the grade level with the highest attendance rate at 10:15am each day and win a pizza party and movie in the PAC during the school day! So far . . . the freshmen are winning!

News from the counselor:

Juniors and Sophomores will be participating in the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 19th and our Freshmen will test on Tuesday, October 18th. Please make sure any scheduled appointments will not conflict with this important opportunity. An early bedtime the night before and a good breakfast the morning of testing are strongly recommended.

We also want to send out a huge thank you to our awesome Lago Vista ISD Education Foundation for their generous donation of funds for these tests.

The end of the 9 weeks is just around the corner. Students should be checking their teachers’ Canvas pages often for due dates and upcoming assignments.

Be sure to come out to meet your student's teachers tonight at Meet the Teacher Night!

Did I mentions that Meet the Teacher Tailgate is tonight? (Please come.)

Please join us after the volleyball game and prior to our home football game on Friday, October 14, beginning at 5:30! Tables and tents will be set up in the grassy area in between the main building and the Performing Arts Center. Come grab a hotdog and a soda and meet some of your student's teachers. There will also be a sign-up sheet for parent conferences on the afternoon of Friday, October 28.

(Please note that because of the home games, our football and volleyball coaches will attend as they are available.)

Students in attendance will receive a coveted red ticket! We hope to see you all there!

Upcoming UIL Academic Meet

The first UIL Academic meet will be on Saturday, November 5, at Pflugerville High School.

Band UIL Competition is next weekend!

Good luck, LVHS band at the UIL Marching Contest at Vista Ridge, Saturday, October 22, 2016. We perform at 1:30 pm. Everyone is welcomed to attend!

LVHS Random Drug testing - Not just for students in uil!

Did you know that ANYONE can sign up their son or daughter to be part of the random drug testing at LVHS? At a time when the power of peer pressure is never higher, students who have the excuse of "I might get drug tested", have an out when put in a difficult situation with drugs and alcohol.

Read the entire policy here: http://www.lagovistaisd.net/default.aspx?name=Publications

Add your student to the random pool by contacting Mr. Walker at justin_walker@lagovista.txed.net.

important attendance information!

Be sure you are aware of the consequences for your student missing too much school:

3 or more unexcused absences in a 4 week period - warning letter sent home.

7 or more unexcused absences in a 6-month period - warning letter sent home and Behavior Intervention Plan meeting called with the parents, student, and assistant principal.

10 or more unexcused absences in a 6 month period - truancy charges are filed. Parent, student and school administrator will be summoned to appear in truancy court.

Our campus goal is to reach 96% attendance each day. If a student is at school at 10:15 am, we receive funding for that student for that day. If they are not, we do not receive funding. For this reason, we ask that you plan all non-medical absences from school for times after 10:15 am.

Weird, but true, attendance fact: If your student is present for any part of the school day and leaves for a medical appointment, they won't get counted absent for that day as long as they bring a note. If they are absent for the entire day for a doctor's appointment, they will be counted absent.

Thanks for your support!
