Types of Networks
Info&More
RING NETWORK
A ring network sends its data packets around the network until it reaches its destination. Drawbacks - Can be slow as no data barely ever goes straight to its destination. If one link in the chain breaks then the whole network goes down. You might find a ring network in a flat/household.
BUS NETWORK
A bus network sends its data along the lines until it reaches its destination. Like a bus does on its route. Drawbacks - Can be slow if you are the last stop on the bus and if one link in the chain breaks then the whole thing goes down. This network is almost completely out of date nowadays.
STAR NETWORK
A star network sends its data straight to the source of its destination. This is much quicker than the other two types of network. If one link in the chain breaks then Only the computer on that end of the link will not work, the whole system stays online apart from the busted computer. Drawbacks - If the server goes down then the whole thing goes down. You might find a star network in a school or office.
