Eagle Ridge Elementary

March 7, 2021

Spring is here!

We are rounding the corner to the end of the 3rd marking period and passing the one-year mark for the virtual instructional model in public education. This year has been filled with new challenges and amazing accomplishments by all. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents, teachers, staff, and students for being part of the success of this year - we have all stepped up to adapt and adjust as we continue to balance the safety, security, and needs of our young learners. As we approach the "testing season", please remember that we are all in this together. What we are about embark on has never been done before and may never be done again. Whatever happens just know that we will get through it together as long as we stay positive, work hard, we can make it happen!

March is National Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

In 1987 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed March “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Join the District ESLS team in “Rocking Your Socks” on Thursday, March 18th, 2021–in honor of World Down Syndrome Day a bit early! It’s easy enough to participate, just stick your hand in your sock drawer and see what comes out. Bright and colorful socks, striped, mismatched, long-just as long as you’re making a statement in support of World Down Syndrome Day and our students! We are hoping for 100% participation on March 18th with our “Lots of Socks” day in honor of World Down Syndrome Day!

Social/Emotional Learning (SEL) & Mindfulness

Social and Emotional Learning develops ways to manage their emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, create and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions. These are life skills children are developing and need when we are adults.

Mindfulness supports SEL as the base of awareness. Mindfulness is paying attention in the present moment. It includes being aware of one’s thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and the surrounding environment. By practicing mindfulness, research shows there is often an increase in the ability to focus, manage emotions, as well as promote mental and physical well-being and resiliency.

Family 10-Minutes of Mindfulness Toolkit was created to provide resources, training, mindfulness sessions and on-demand recordings. I have also included additional resources for you and your family as an attachment. Please utilize these resources to build stronger relationships and develop skills to lead happier and healthier lives.
