Professional Learning Requirements 2020-2021

WHAT GT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DO I NEED?

K-5 Teachers, Honors, AP Teachers, Teachers of advanced academics courses, are required to complete their Gifted and Talented 30 Hour Foundations courses within one semester of working with students.


The 30 Hour Foundations course is comprised of 5 Modules:

Module/Day 1: Nature & Social/Emotional

Module/Day 2: Identification & Assessment

Module/Day 3: Depth, Complexity, and Differentiation

Module/Day 4: Instructional Strategies

Module/Day 5: Advanced Products and Performances


The 30 Hour Foundations can be taken through Region 11 and Region 10 free of charge.


Once the initial 30 Hour Foundations courses are completed, teachers listed are required to have 6 hours of professional learning in GT each year to remain updated and in compliance.

Gifted Professional Learning for Administrators & Counselors:

Based on the Texas State Plan for the Gifted, all Administrators, Counselors, and those who make hiring and scheduling decisions for GT programs must complete a 6 hour GT for Admin professional learning module yearly.

WHERE CAN I COMPLETE THIS PROFESSIONAL LEARNING?

Little Elm ISD is a member of the Region 10 Advanced Academics Consortium. LEISD educators can attend any Advanced Academics professional learning, online and face-to-face, for free!

What Professional Learning Qualifies for a GT Update?

It is the responsibility of the educator attending trainings for the purpose of GT update hours to ensure the session adheres to these guidelines before registering.
