PCSD Backpack Program
The Portage Community School District Backpack Program is teaming up to provide food to children for the 2018-2019 school year. The Portage Community Schools Backpack Program is a free program that provides kid-friendly, non-perishable food, for students most in need, to eat over the weekends. It is our hope these resources will support the health, behavior, and achievement of every student that participates.
Items distributed in the program could include: cereal, peanut butter, juice, fruit cups, soup, vegetables, shelf-stable milk, granola bars, and microwaveable meals. Bags will be distributed to student participants on the last school day before the weekend or break. ANY child who is in need is eligible to receive these weekly bags of food.
Please carefully consider your family’s economic status to determine if food assistance is needed by your child(ren). The goal of the program is to provide food to children who are hungry on a regular basis.
This program is funded through grants, donations, school building budgets, and Portage Community School District employee payroll deductions. It is staffed and run by community volunteers.
If you feel your child(ren) would benefit from this program at any time during the school year, we encourage you to sign them up by filling out the form on the back and returning it to the office by Sept. 14, 2018. We will do our best to ensure that this program is confidential as students will not be identified as participating.
If you have any questions please contact Elizabeth Hansen at hansene@portage.k12.wi.us or at 608-742-8545 ext.1219. You may also contact the office at your child(ren)’s school.
Dental Day September 21st
The Children's Dental Foundation is a Marquette County based non-profit that partners with the County Health Department and a local dental hygienist to provide dental cleanings for students PreK through 5th grade. This is for the teeth cleaning if BadgerCare, Medicaid, or no insurance. Forms for sign up will come home the first week of school.
Each student in grades 2, 3, 4, or 5 will get the Seal a Smile form also. This will provide an oral assessment, fluoride varnish application and sealants as is appropriate (healthy teeth without any signs of decay or concerns of some sort.)
Forms need to be returned back to school by September 14, 2018.
Please pay your fees in the school office or online, if you haven't already.
Thank you!
