A Message from our Principal, Mr. Pflugrath...
Dear Osbourn Family,
I hope you and your family are safe and well. Reminder that Monday is a school holiday as we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This Thursday, Jan. 20th, is our next PTSA meeting in the library at 6:30 pm, all are invited and welcome. Saturday, Jan. 22nd, is our next Saturday Learning Seminar in the Library at 9 am. Please come by for additional academic supports and tutoring and breakfast.
We shared a short but deliberate message with your children about the importance of keeping themselves and one another safe when we returned to school. That along with our staff assisting our phenomenal custodial staff in maintaining a clean and healthy environment, I am hoping to continue the great academic success we experienced during the first semester.
I realize this is an unsettling time with COVID for most of us, I am confident that as long as we are following the protocols designed to keep us safe (proper masking, distancing, and handwashing) we are safe while in school. Having our children and our staff in a space where there are consistent rules about the implementation of these protocols makes me feel good about being in person during this time.
This latest iteration of the COVID virus has impacted us all. Students and staff are both feeling the impacts and we are doing our best to work through this. Students may notice an uptick in absences among teachers due to either staff having tested positive, or an immediate family member has tested positive causing them to have to stay at home. Teachers who are impacted in this way will continue to ensure that the content is still being delivered. Our teachers have been, and will continue to do a phenomenal job of covering classes when the teacher of record is out to ensure students have qualified professionals in front of them as much as possible.
Based on the data that we have been able to collect across the school division, while there has been an increase in the spread of COVID across the community, the transmission has not been found to exist in schools when the proper mitigation protocols are being followed. School has proven to be a safe place with the increased air quality measures, cleaning practices, and masking.
I have a huge favor to ask of you. If your child is showing any symptoms that could be associated with COVID, please keep them at home. If we observe a student displaying symptoms, we will have to have them return home. This process can be very time consuming which takes resources away from other responsibilities. We can save a great deal of time if you can catch these matters as you assess your children daily prior to them leaving home in the mornings. Thank you for your support with this.
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend and stay safe. As always, thank you for your continued support, and please reach out if you have questions.
#OneOsbourn
Sincerely,
Mike Pflugrath

Masks, Masks, Masks!
Please help your student adhere to our mask policy. Masks are still worn at all times by both staff and students indoors and on school buses, but are not required outdoors. With the cold and flu season upon us, it is even more important for students to be sure to leave home with a mask as they head out to school and having an extra mask in their backpack would be a great idea. We appreciate your help in keeping all our students and staff safe!

Winter Weather
There are several ways you can find out if inclement weather will affect the school day. The MCPS Website is generally the first and fastest mode of communication during emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be updated as quickly as possible including email, text, website, social media, and news stations.
Plan ahead for the winter season. Bookmark the MCPS website, plan for childcare if needed, and make sure your children know where they will go if school is closed, dismissed early, or open late.

Glow of the Week
Our glow of the week is senior Jenna Dimiceli. Jenna’s always a positive influence, whether it be participating in class, club activities, volleyball, swim, softball, or just in the hallway. Jenna volunteers to help out without prompting to make our school better. Jenna volunteers in the main office and the attendance office, she also represents her peers on the Raising Student Voice and Participation council. Recently, Jenna, along with her teammates, celebrated the girls’ swim team victory over Gainesville High School. Whenever you turn around she is doing something positive for OHS. Thank you Jenna for your influence and OneOsbourn attitude. You are the reason I got into education.
