St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 8 | 24 March 2023
Good afternoon St Bernie’s,
You may have noticed a few tired faces on our Year 6 students and staff during the later part of this week! I think it would be fair to say that they have all had an AMAZING time exploring, rock-climbing, kayaking, raft building, zip lining and abseiling at camp. Our students had the opportunity to step outside their comfort zone and try new, and often daunting experiences with their friends. They worked as a team, supported each other and became closer as a group; making memories that I doubt they will forget!
Yet again, I would like to thank all our staff who attended and helped to make the camp such a success. They are long, action-packed days and there is never a minute to relax, however, our staff take it all in their stride and have a great time too! I would also like to thank all the staff who were left behind at school as many picked up extra duties and responsibilities to keep everything running smoothly.
This week was also the first week of Parent / Teacher Interviews and the second 123 Magic Session was also held on Tuesday night. We have had a huge number of parents take up these opportunities which help to improve consistency and communication between home and school, and I hope will provide parents with an insight into their child’s schooling here at St Bernie’s.
Our NAPLAN testing window came to a close at the end of the week and I would also like to thank all the teachers and parents for having our students so ready and calm during the testing. For some, this can be a little stressful, however, with the right messaging from home and school we aim to make it as stress-free as possible while still encouraging our students to do their best.
Next week we have school photos, more interviews and our Interschool Swimming Carnival. It is sure to be another great week here at Bernie’s!
Look forward to seeing you then!
Friday 31 March 2023
The following students will be receiving a Merit Award at next week's assembly, parents and family are welcome to attend:
Sustainability Mural - Year 6
On Tuesday 28th March, the Yr 6 students will have the opportunity to help paint a sustainability mural with one of our renowned local artists, Samantha Prentice. The students were lucky enough to attend a design workshop with Sam a couple of weeks ago and the fruits of their labour will now be put into action.
All of the students will have the opportunity to be part of the painting process as long as they bring to school a change of clothing that won’t matter if it gets paint on it - an old T shirt, short/leggings and also some old shoes. Students will NOT be able to participate in this project if they don’t have old clothes to wear on the day. We do not want their school uniforms getting ruined with paint.
Year 3 - 6 Swimming Carnival
Well done to Mckillop House (Yellow Faction) who won the overall carnival! And to Pius House (Orange Faction) who grabbed the Cheer Award!
