Mrs. Salemi's Classroom News!
October 2020
Fall is here!
As the season changes to Autumn and the weather begins to cool, try to relax and curl up with a good book. Enjoy time with family and friends, and possibly a treat that's pumpkin spiced!
Thanks for your support,
Mrs. Salemi
IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
Student Engagement:
Kudos to all the students who have been attending 63 Online on time and completing work/assignments-your hard work does not go unnoticed!
Students should continue to do the following:
- Arrive online at 8:15am each day of remote learning.
- Complete work both during synchronous (live) and asynchronous (independent) instruction.
- Support your child when needed--check in with them to make sure they understand.
This will lead to a successful school year!
Attendance is now taken by the teachers. Parents DO NOT need to submit attendance. However, if your child is sick or has an appointment, please contact Apollo's office (847-827-6231) to inform them of any absences.
Technology Issues:
If your child is experiencing technology issues, please click here to see what you can do! Please put in a help desk request and someone from EMSD63's technology department will get back to you soon.
September Enrichment
Here is some information about what we have been learning last month!
- We began our new reading curriculum-Units of Study by Lucy Calkins. Students have taken a deeper look at the types of text they are reading and have been working on reading intensely. Students have also started to envision while reading as well as how to write about characters within their texts they are reading.
Writing:
- We started out new writing curriculum also by Lucy Calkins. Students developed narrative writing pieces (both personal and realistic fiction). They wrote about a problem, how it got worse and the solution by touching and telling the story bit by bit.
Math:
- We will complete our 1st module with place value, rounding, comparing, and multi-step word problems on Friday.
- Our 2nd module that includes measurement with length, capacity, and mass conversions is a short one-lasting only 5 lessons!
- Following that, we will be moving on to Module 3 which will include multi-digit multiplication/division.
- Need help getting a better understanding of math?? Check out my website or click the following link: http://eurekamathhelp.piqua.org/student-math-resources/fourth-grade-resources
Science/Social Studies:
- We have been learning about changes in our environment and rock patterns in our first bundle in STEMscopes.
SELS (Social Emotional Learning Standards):
- Our theme for the month of September was RESPECT. Students discussed what Respect looks like in remote learning, as well as read different stories, and completed different activities all around Respect. We learn that by respecting one another, we can all be more successful learners and people in the world.
Jamboard!
Jamboard is a digital whiteboard that lets even far-flung teams sketch out ideas and save them in the cloud so they can be accessed on any device. This interactive tool is used so students can write, create and post all at the same time! Check out our "graffiti wall" where we reflected on how we were feeling one Friday morning!
Important Dates!
