Mrs. Torlay -- 6th Grade Counselor

My name is Amy Torlay and I am the 6th grade counselor. I am so honored to be working with your kids this year. I am almost a native to Greenville county; I moved here from Florida when I was 6 years old. I live with my husband and two sons who are sophomores in High School. I graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor's in Psychology and a Masters and an EdS in School Counseling.

This is my first year as a school counselor. I previously worked in an office at a school and once upon a time worked in sales. I love to read, hike (well mostly just walk a long way), run, and bike.

Mrs. Tenholder -- 7th Grade Counselor

Hello everyone!

I am beyond excited to be working with my students from last year! For those of you who do not know me already, this is my second year at Hughes Academy and fourth year as a School Counselor. Your students are my main priority; all of my kids know that I have their back and I'm their biggest advocate. I want to help your children in times of need, but also celebrate with them with their life's successes!

I am originally from Connecticut, moved to Florida for college, and am now here in Greenville! My husband and I have one child, Dustin, who was born in April and two cats (really they think they're dogs). I am obsessed with Disney and am listening to Disney music all throughout the work day. I would also be very happy to eat ice cream for every meal of the day.

Visit my website for more information! Can't wait to work with you this year!

Mrs. McCain -- 8th Grade Counselor

I was born and raised in Greenville and am a product of Greenville County Schools. I received my Bachelors from Anderson in Psychology and my Med in School Counseling from Clemson. I have 3 children: Alex – 13, Ashlyn – 11, and Tanner – 3. We love playing and watching sports together. I have been a school counselor at Hughes for 6 years and I am excited to be starting my third year with these 8th graders. I cannot wait to see what they accomplish in the future!

I have been married for five years and have a daughter; who will turn two in October.

Soil Conservationist

The main job of a soil conservationist is to come up with plans to prevent erosion and develop practices for sustainable land use, mostly by performing land-use surveys. Whether working in the private sector or in some level of government, conservation and “green” issues have taken on added importance in recent years. This is especially vital in areas of the country susceptible to the impacts of erosion, such as coastal areas.

With open space and buildable land becoming a precious commodity, the effects of building on said land is carefully documented by soil conservationists. .
