Room 314
March 31, 2014
Welcome back from spring break. I hope you enjoyed your time off. I enjoyed sleeping in (for a change), going to the gym, seeing some movies, going to the zoo and spending time with family and friends. It was nice and relaxing.
We are now back and have one week until AIMS/SAT 10 testing. If your child is in 2nd-6th grade, please do what you can to assure your child that they will do okay and not to worry. If your child will be pulled out for small group testing, I am working the details of that this week and will post the testing classroom information in next week's newsletter.
Another piece of exciting news, our Little Free Library has been published in the "City Sun Times" newspaper. You can pick up a copy at local businesses. You can also read the article here. The hard copy includes pictures of the kids that built the Little Free Library and of the actual Library. You can also check out the Copper Canyon Little Free Library website
The United Parent Council has some great parent information opportunities. Click here to view the flyer.
Have a great week!

3rd and 4th Grade Math
6th Grade Math
This week we will continue reviewing what we have learned this year and touching on some concepts that we were not able to get to yet.
5th Grade Reading 1
5th Grade Wilson Reading 2
This week, we will be reviewing for AIMS. We will be going through sample test questions and applying what we have learned about finding information in a passage.
6th Grade Reading
1st Grade Reading
This week, we will continue unit 7. This unit focuses on the glued sounds: ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, unk. Our goal is to be charting the students’ fluency 2-3 times per week. Be sure to be working on the assigned probe each week. We will continue with fluency probes this quarter. We have moved on to different probes. This week's probe is 12.
4th Grade Reading
This week, we will be reviewing for AIMS. We will be going through sample test questions and applying what we have learned about finding information in a passage.
6th Grade Writing
On Monday through Wednesday, we will be working on adding descriptions to our writing. Students will be describing an image to see the importance of capturing details. Then they will be drawing and describing a monster that they create. Students will trade their descriptions with a partner in order to accurately draw the image that is being described. They will be able to share and compare drawings to see the similarities and differences. Students will realize how being descriptive is important and if not done correctly can produce a different image than intended. On Thursday and Friday will be AIMS review. We will also continue to work with Four Level Grammar. This is a program that is being used throughout the school to immerse children in grammar. We will spend 5-10 a day on grammar.
