Cell Theory
The Cell Theory is:
- All living things are made of cells.
- Cells carry out functions needed to support life.
- Cells come only from other living cells.
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells
Prokaryote:
- They have no nucleus
- Hereditary contained with cytoplasm
- Examples: Archaea and Bacteria
- They have a nucleus
- Hereditary contained with the nucleus
- Examples: animals, protist,fungi, plants
Cell Organization
Cells: Simple unit of living things
Tissue: Group of cells that work together that makes a function.
Organ: Group of tissues that work together that makes a function.
Organ System: Group of organs that work together that makes a function.
Organism: Group of organ systems that work to ether to make a function.
Animal Cells and Plant Cells
Types of Organelles
Lysosome
Recycling stations of the cell. They break down waste for the cell. This is found in animal cells.
Vacuole
This is like a storage warehouse. This stores the water for the cell. This is found in both.
Cytoplasm
This is in found in both. This is the liquid that fills the cell.
Ribosomes
The ribosomes follow the same instructions as the nucleus. It creates proteins for the cell. This acts like small factories and they are found in both.
Nucleus
The nucleus controls everything. It also holds DNA. The nucleus is like the Mayor.
Golgi Body
This is like a packing plant. It groups liquids and proteins. This is found in both.
Smooth and Rough ER
It acts like a big complex factory. Prepares proteins to be shipped off to the Golgi Body. This is found in both.
Chloroplast
Acts like a solar power plant, and it converts sun rays to food, photosynthesis. This is found in plants.
Cell wall
Keeps the cell structure. It is like a security gaurd. This is found in the plant cell.
Cell Membrane
The cell membrane controls what goes in and out of the cell. This is like a doorman and is found in both.
Nucleolus
This assembles the ribosomes. Found in Both cells.
Mitochondria
Acts like a power plant and creates energy for the cell. This is found in both.
