To all of the Drip Coffees, Lattes, Iced Coffees, & Earl Grey Teas,

If you weren't with us on Monday, take this quick coffee quiz. It's fun! http://goo.gl/i1VDmc

Thank you for your energy - and SYNERGY - on Monday as we learned and collaborated together. My goal was to make our time together meaningful and fun. There's an opportunity for you to give feedback on the day. (See the link below.)

You may feel like this is the longest short week ever. If you're like me, you may be wondering where the time went and how it flew by so quickly! I can't believe it's already time for the weekend!

Time flies... time is on my side...time heals all wounds... if I could save time in a bottle...the gift of time...if I just had enough time...just one more year/day/hour/minute/second...I just need more time...time...time...time...could we ever have enough?

Unlike Dow-Jones, we as educators don't have a hard start and stop time. Our jobs may sometimes overwhelm us. We often have to leave, put things away, but we are really not finished. I've often heard, "It will be there when you get here tomorrow". And isn't that the truth? It doesn't go away! It's what we think of when we startle ourselves awake at 3:00 a.m. Sometimes I wonder if our newest cliche in education is, "I just need more time".

So let's turn the tables on time. Do we spend our time on the things we really value. What do we value? What really matters? So here's some perspective, found in a brief excerpt from a poem:

To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.
To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.
To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train.
To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident.
To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special. The clock is running. Make the most of today.

Take time to enjoy your weekend and refresh yourself. Enjoy spending time with someone you love, someone who is important to you.

Important Reminders

Staff Development Day: Please provide feedback through this quick survey: http://goo.gl/forms/gwpHMtv3Qw

Early Dismissal Days are Here: February 23 and 24 are designated as parent conference days, so start scheduling now. Conferences are required for all struggling and/or failing students. Student led conferences are great! Conduct individual parent conferences as needed. Don't forget:

  • Professional Dress on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Give Laura a copy of your conference schedule.
  • Have parents sign in. Turn in your sign-in sheet to your GLC by the end of the week.
  • Remember: Discuss only educational information with parents. Do NOT make medical diagnosis, such as, "Your child has ADHD". If you are asked, you may tell your observations, but do not make a diagnosis.

Intervention and Tutoring: If students are failing or in danger of failing, they should be in RAP/MAP and tutoring (before or after school). Please discuss this with parents at conferences. If parents refuse tutoring, please have them put that in writing. You will also need to keep attendance for tutoring, as well as in-school interventions. And don't forget about Compass and RtI!

Suicide Prevention Training: GLCs should turn in certificates when all members have completed training. Training must be completed and certificates turned in by Friday, Feb. 19. The principles of Reflective Conversation can be helpful for all conversations with parents, students, and colleagues. Keep this in mind during upcoming conferences.

Extended Planning/Fun Friday/Minion Walk is coming! Mark your calendars for March 4.
