Flamenco
What is Flamenco music?
Flamenco is more than just music, it as an art the embodies music, dancing, singing, and spirit. Although there are many different types of flamenco music, most are characterized by the guitar paired with a rhythmic punctuation and distinct melody.
Where did it come from?
Flamenco music started as a fusion between cante gitano and Andalusian folk music. Dating back to the 16th century, Flamenco has roots in gypsy, Arabian, Jewish, and Andalusian culture. As it became increasingly more popular in the second half of the 19th century, trademark dance forms and movements were formed.

Dress and the Importance of Red
Traditional flamenco dresses (above picture) are typically fitted at the top, and filled out at the bottom. Multiple layers of brightly-colored ruffles are common. These dresses come from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is credited to Spanish gypsies and Andalusian culture. Within flamenco, while other colors are used, the color red can represent strength, vitality, and passion.

Today, flamenco still represents an important part of Hispanic culture, and is recognized for its beauty ad modern music and dance.
