April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and we invite you to show your support for our nation's children by making your own pinwheel display!
Pinwheels are the national symbol of child abuse prevention and a visible reminder of the happy and healthy childhood that all children deserve.
HERE'S HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE
MAKE A PINWHEEL DISPLAY
Make or purchase inexpensive pinwheels and create a pinwheel garden in your yard or at a local business (with permission).
Or you can make a Pinwheels for Prevention poster to display on your front porch or window. Be sure to include your school's name on the poster!
Once your pinwheel display is complete, take a photo of you with your display and wear your school shirt (if you have one). Share it to your school’s Facebook page.
LOG YOUR COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS
Don't forget to log your community service hours here!
Visit your school's Care for Your Community page for more information and details about how to get involved, show your support, and join us in the fight against child abuse!

South Carolina Academic Standards
SC READY Assessment items measure student performance on the South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Standards.
- SC READY English language arts and mathematics items are aligned with the 2015 South Carolina College and Career-Ready Academic Standards.
- The ELA standards are located on the SCDE Web site at: http://ed.sc.gov/instruction/standards-learning/english-language-arts/standards.
- The mathematics standards are located at: http://ed.sc.gov/instruction/standards-learning/mathematics/standards.
The SC READY test items are aligned to the standards for each subject and grade level. Standards specify what schools are expected to teach and what students are expected to learn. Academic standards also include indicators that are statements of the specific cognitive processes and the content knowledge and skills that students must demonstrate to meet the grade-level standards. SC READY test items are written to assess the content knowledge and skills described in the academic standards and indicators.

South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) Science and Social Studies
About SCPASS–Subjects and Grade Levels Tested
The South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) is a statewide assessment administered to students in grades four, six, and eight for science and grades five and seven for social studies. All students in these grade levels are required to take the SCPASS except those who qualify for the South Carolina Alternate Assessment (SC-Alt). SCPASS includes tests in two subjects: science and social studies.
South Carolina Academic Standards
SCPASS test items measure student performance on the South Carolina Academic Standards. The SCPASS test items are aligned to the standards for each subject and grade level. Standards outline what schools are expected to teach and what students are expected to learn. Academic standards also include indicators that are statements of the specific cognitive processes and the content knowledge and skills that students must demonstrate to meet the grade-level standards. SCPASS test items are written to assess the content knowledge and skills described in the academic standards and indicators.
Social studies and science standards and supporting documents are available on the South Carolina Department of Education website:
Types of Test Items
The science tests consist of multiple-choice items and technology-enhanced or TE item types, such as drag and drop, hot spot (click to select), drop down list, and constructed-response (type a numeric response). The grade 8 science test also includes some scenario sets. A "scenario set" consists of a scenario (scientific text passage, graph, and/or data) with two test items related to the scenario.
The social studies tests consist of multiple-choice items and technology-enhanced (TE) item types, such as drag and drop, hot spot (click to select), drop-down list, and multi-select.
Online Tools Training (OTT)
Samples of the new item types have been developed for inclusion in the Online Tools Training (OTT) for SCPASS. The Online Tools Training (OTT) for SCPASS can be accessed at the following website (using Google Chrome): https://wbte.drcedirect.com/SC/portals/sc.
