Weekly Highlights
- New Spring Prep Schedule goes into effect Monday, 1/11/16. Check your email.
- Fridays @ 9am: Student binders should be updated with students work every Friday. You should have a schedule of students to meet with each Friday, to go over student work, data and goals.
Announcements:
- Teachers, please make sure you review students HW. Ms. Diaz and administration have received concerns from parents that HW is not reviewed/checked.
- Homework should include daily reading HW: Kinder-10 min/ 1st Gr-15 min/ 2nd & 3rd Grade- 20 min/ 4th and 5th Grade- 30 min (this time is to start as we build stamina and increase time during the second semester of the school year). Students should log their reading weekly and teachers should collect reading logs and include in their student binders.
- Writing Homework daily: Please provide students with a daily prompt to work on that relates to the writing genre they are working on in class (informational/narrative etc.). DO NOT DO ONE PROMPT FOR THE WEEK. We are working on building writing stamina daily. Grades K- 2-3 sentences, Grade 1: Minimum 1 paragraph 5 sentences. Grade 2: Minimum 2 paragraphs (4-5 sentences each). Grades 3-5: One page, 3-5 paragraphs.
- Active flexible groups with task cards, & learning resource tools, i.e. graphic organizers, manipulatives should be evident during guided instructional periods.
- For the safety of all students: All children must be ESCORTED at all times and have a pass in hand-- To the bathroom, lunch, prep classes, etc.
- Teachers please review Chancellors Regulation 420 and 421.
- All teachers Grades K-5, enrichment teachers, SETTS, Speech and Language, ESL, Instructional Coaches---MUST be downstairs in the auditorium for Morning Arrival at 8am and Dismissal at 2:10pm
- ALL Classroom Teachers MUST have their OWN DAILY lesson plans for ALL Content areas: Math, ELA, Guided Reading, 2nd Math Block, Science, Social Studies.
- ALL enrichment teachers MUST have lesson plans for each class they service. All other support staff MUST have lesson plans for students they service. This is part of Danielson Standard 1e- Designing Coherent Instruction

1. Guided Instruction in ELA and Math 2. Analyze Data to Drive Instruction
3. Incorporate technology in instruction

Thursday 1/14- Day: ELA, Math, Guided Reading/ Test Readiness, 2nd Math, Social Studies
- Grades 3-5 : 9am Test Readiness Block: Main Idea and Details Assessment
- Guided Reading Grades K-2: Groups should be scheduled, independent tasks for students in place, organized guided reading material should be visible. For guided reading material visit room 211.Active flexible groups with task cards, & learning resource tools, i.e. graphic organizers, manipulatives should be evident.
- 2nd Math Block: Grades 3-5: Students should be working on solving word problems in their math notebooks using CUBES. Students should solve 3 problems during a 40 min block. 10-15min should be used to review 1 of the problems. Reviewing is crucial for students understanding and misunderstandings to be discussed.
- 2nd Math BlocK: Grades K-2: Students should engage in center math activities and small group reteach lessons that support areas identified by data as areas of weakness. NO WHOLE GROUP RETEACHING.
Friday 1/15- Day: ELA, Math, Student Conferencing: Binders, 2nd Math, Social Studies
- Grades K-5 : 9am Block--- Student Conferencing around student work, data, and goals/Binders of student work

- Book Baggies: All students should have book baggies with just right books: 5 books max levels A-K / 3 books max levels L-Z--- Check students books for accuracy. Students should be shopping for books weekly and MUST keep a weekly reading log.
- As you greet our rockets this week please remember to greet our learners with kindness, organized, colorful, learning environments and with honest preparation for becoming literate, mathematicians, scientists, historians, critical thinkers willing and able to solve world problems, in other words PLAN, meaningful, productive interactive, and engaging lessons
