February is Black History Month!
This week, we had the FSES Living Museum. Our 3rd-5th grade students who participated did a PHENOMENAL job!! Kudos to Mrs. Palmer for spearheading and special thanks to Mrs. Henry & Ms. Summers for all of their hard work and help.
You can find a link to the FSES Living Museum here ----> https://youtu.be/JupbfS9tjdU. Please take some time to view this amazing production.
Factory Shoals has Heart!
When your student joins the Kids Heart Challenge, not only will they raise funds to help kids — and all people — with special hearts, they’ll also learn about their heart health. Activities and interactive technologies make it fun to learn how to keep your heart and brain strong and emphasize both physical and emotional wellness. Plus, your school can earn PE equipment. You can sign your child up here using this link ---->http://www2.heart.org/goto/factoryshoalses.
You can email Coach Hahn at courtney.hahn@dcssga.org or Coach Richey at jealon.richey@dcssga.org if you have questions.

FLEX Academy
DCSS FLEX Academy: Accepting Applications for 2022-2023
If your student is an independent learner who likes to use technology, and your family needs or desires a more flexible approach to education, the FLEX Academy might be right for you!
What is FLEX?
FLEX is short for Flexible Learning for Educational Excellence. Students in 1st through 12th grade are invited to apply for the FLEX program. All teachers are certified Douglas County School System teachers who are committed to the success of your child. FLEX is ideal for highly independent, self-motivated learners who enjoy working at a fast pace.
We are implementing a new model at FLEX for the 2022-2023 school year. The new program at FLEX for the 2022-2023 school year will require that all students interested apply for the 2022-2023 school year. Please review the new criteria for the 2022-2023 school year and the options for each grade level.
To access the application and for more information about FLEX Academy, visit the website at flex.dcssga.org.
School-level COVID Protocols
If you suspect that you or your child may have COVID, please keep them home until you get the results or symptoms subside. Your child will be able to make up any work they have missed when they return. Again, the absences your student accumulates will not be counted against them. Please help us slow the spread. Thank you in advance for your understanding and attention to this matter.

Bus Expectations
School bus transportation is a privilege afforded pupils by the Board of Education. It is not a right. To protect the safety and well-being of all involved, pupils must adhere to established bus conduct rules. Bus transportation privilege may be revoked if the pupil does not observe bus conduct expectations.
Birthdays
As a reminder, we do not allow whole birthday cakes or any birthday treats that are individually wrapped.
We enjoy honoring our students on their birthday. We announce the birthday child’s name on the morning announcements and allow families to bring in treats within the guidelines below.
Cupcakes/snacks must be store bought AND prepackaged/individually wrapped.
Also, you may want to think about non-food items. The items listed below will still make your child feel special and they will last a lot longer than a food item.
- A game for the classroom
- A classroom book (A nice touch would be having your child pick it out, sign it, and date it.)
- A classroom set of items for each child to keep such as pencils, pens, erasers, markers, etc.
Title I Parent Resource Center
The Parent Resource Room is now open. If you wish to visit, please make an appointment via email to either Mrs. Frett or Ms. Summers.

Car Rider Lane Guidelines
- Car riders may only be dropped off and picked up within the designated car rider zone.
- Morning student drop-off begins at 7:00 AM. Afternoon dismissal of car riders begins at 2:25 PM.
- Have your child gather their belongings prior to getting to the front of the car rider lane.
- Have your child put their mask on before getting out of the car.
- All drivers should remain in cars.
- Remember to unlock your doors.
- Students MUST wait until FSES School Staff opens the car door in order to proceed from vehicles. This is for the safety of all students.
- If possible, all students should be loaded and unloaded through passenger side doors- Curb Side.
- Passing is not permitted in Car Rider Line. Like school bus loading and unloading zones, violators will have license plates turned over to the DCSS Police Department.
If you or the person who is picking up your child in the afternoon does not have the blue Car Rider Identification card, they will have to pick up the child from the front office and have their ID available for our front office staff to check. This is for the safety of your child. Thank you for your understanding.
We thank you in advance for adhering to our rules as they all help keep your students safe around moving vehicles.
