Principal's Message
Good afternoon,
It's finally here! Wednesday is the first day of school! Although we are sad that we will not get to see our students in person yet, we are excited to meet them virtually and begin the school year.
Since this is a very different start than a typical school year, I want to make sure that we are as clear as possible on what students need to do each day. We made a quick getting started video for you to watch, and we have provided this video for the students in Camp War Eagle, our virtual orientation.
The most important thing to know is that attendance counts per class period, every day. Students should be interacting with their coursework for their assigned classes each day they would attend if they were on campus. Students can do this until 11:59pm on the day of class in order to be marked present.
Interacting with coursework is different than completing assignments. Students may attend a Canvas Conference with their teacher, participate in a discussion, watch a video, etc. in order to be marked present for the day. Think of it as walking through the door of the classroom - if we were in person, they would be marked present when they enter the class whether or not they turn in an assignment.
The other thing to know is that you student's teachers will be available to them during their scheduled class time to answer questions, correspond through email, etc. Though we are in an asynchronous learning model, teachers will still be available at those class times, but students will not be required to attend class at that time.
I have attached a video, a checklist, and lots of other information here for you to review. The most important thing is that all students login to Canvas on Wednesday, August 12th by 11am and interact with the assignments posted. We will begin contacting families of students who have not logged in on Wednesday morning to check on students and try to troubleshoot issues.
We are here to help and answer any questions you may have. Also, please visit our campus website for information and updates.
We are looking forward to a great year!

Remote Learning Attendance - Attendance COunts - EVERY DAY!
While we are in 100% remote learning, we will take attendance through engagement checks. This means that on a Red Day - a student will be considered present if they engage with their material or teacher for all scheduled classes for 1, 3, 5, and 7th periods.
This can most effectively be done by logging into Canvas and working on coursework or emailing the instructor. A completed assignment each day is not necessary for a student to be considered present, but the student does need to engage with the material and/or teacher each day. The student must engage by 11:59PM on the day of the class to be considered present for that day. Teachers will update attendance the following school day for each class.
Please remember that while in remote learning, attendance rules still apply. This means that students must be in attendance 90% of the days a class is offered to receive credit.

Canvas tutorial videos
Beginning on Wednesday, August 12, all students enrolled in Conroe ISD will start the school year in Remote/Online Instruction. The Learning Management System that we use at Oak Ridge High School is Canvas. Please see the videos below to learn more about accessing Canvas.
- Canvas for students – English
- Canvas for students – Spanish
- Canvas for parents – English
- Canvas for parents - Spanish
On the first day of school, students must log in and complete/engage in an activity through Canvas to be counted as present. All ninth-grade students have been assigned to Camp War Eagle, our online freshman orientation. On the first day of school, we ask that all students login to the Camp War Eagle course in Canvas and complete the "First Day of School Check-In" before proceeding to their individual courses. If a student is not able to login to Canvas on the first day, they can email their teachers for the courses they should attend that day, and that will count as attendance for each course. We will work with you to troubleshoot login difficulties so we can ensure everyone has access to their coursework as quickly as possible.
ORHS9 Technology Information
We have now completed our official technology distribution. If you still need to pick up technology, please contact emorse@conroeisd.net or 201-465-5014.

We will contact all families who have not interacted with the First Day Check-in by 11am.
We will update it with campus tours and procedures as we get closer to welcoming our students back on campus.
