Updates and Reminders!
Hi Husky Families,
I hope you and your family are doing well and are remaining safe after the unexpected snowstorm we experienced last week. As we supported our students and staff in transitioning back into the building, we are aware many Huskies lost power and water for multiple days. We are standing with you and are a resource should you need anything.
TELPAS: During the month of March, we will be measuring our English Language Learners growth using an instrument called TELPAS. Please watch the videos below to get more information. We are excited to see the growth our students will make in reading, speaking, listening, and writing this year!
Virtual parents: I want to remind you to ensure your students are attending electives/block classes every day and are completing assignments in Schoology. This is a part of their report card grades. Additionally, fine arts and physical movement are important subjects of the day to help us develop students' minds and body. We want all our Huskies to shine! Please read the Block newsletter for exciting updates, student programs, and projects.
SAVE THE DATE: Our Mission Possible Virtual Family Night has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 5:30PM. We will share campus data with you and strategies you can use at home to support your child's success. All families who attend will be entered in a raffle for family fun baskets and giftcards. The class with the most participation will also win a special prize!
Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support you and your families. We are here for you!
Stay safe, well, and encouraged!

Change of Learning Location for Students for the Fourth Nine Weeks
Dear Hearne Families, It’s hard to believe we are rapidly approaching the end of the third nine weeks grading period, which ends on March 12. The fourth nine weeks grading cycle will begin upon our return from Spring Break on Monday, March 22, 2021. Per TEA guidelines, families are allowed to formally change their child’s mode of instruction (virtual or in-person) before the start of a new grading period. If you wish to keep your child’s learning mode, you need not do anything at this time. However, if you would like to change your child’s learning mode (from virtual to in-person or from in-person to virtual) for the fourth grading period (March 22 to June 3), you must complete the form linked https://forms.gle/Pc8GKaHp1XecLui88 (or scan the QR code below) no later than Friday, March 5 at 11:59 p.m. for each of your children attending Hearne. After you complete the form the first time, you will see the option to submit another response in case you have more than one child attending our school. You will need to complete the form for each child you have attending this school whose learning mode you want to change. If you have children who attend another AISD school and you wish to change their learning mode, please complete the form that the other campus sent to you about that child. Our goal is to maintain consistency for students, while also maintaining our class size and safety structures. In some cases we may need to change a student’s teacher(s) in order to better serve everyone's needs in the new grading period. Please contact us at 281-983-8333 with any questions about this process. For families who choose to switch their mode of instruction, we will follow up with additional information the week of March 8. Sincerely, Johanna Sanchez Principal 281-983-8333

STUDENT CONSENT FORM FOR OPTIONAL COVID-19 TESTING/ FORMULARIO DE CONSENTIMIENTO PARA LA PRUEBA DE DETECCIÓN DE COVID-19 EN ESTUDIANTES
The Alief ISD takes the health and safety of our students and their families very seriously. As such, in addition to steps to screen for the virus and prevent its spread on a campus, we are adding a voluntary K-12 COVID-19 testing program for students. This program uses Abbott Laboratories BinaxNOW tests provided by the federal government. We will only test with your consent. If you are willing to provide consent for us to administer this test on your child or yourself (if student age 18 or older), please fill out this form.

COVID-19 Student Absence Policy
- On-Campus Student Absences: If an on-campus student is absent for a reason that is acceptable to the administrator, the student can still earn the daily attendance credit by fulfilling the remote attendance requirement. Students should log in to the teacher's Zoom and complete assignments in Schoology to be counted present remotely.
- If a student is unable to attend school (including remote learning) because the student is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or because the student has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the absence is to be recorded as an excused absence. As with any medically excused absence, the student will be required to provide documentation.
Visitors
- Visitors will not be allowed without an appointment. Visitors must wear a mask and will be screened before entry.
- Visitors will not be allowed to eat lunch with their children. We encourage all parents to send student lunches in the morning with students.
