Superintendent's message
Good Monday to everyone,
I hope everyone had a great and restful weekend. We are gearing up for what is sure to be a very busy and stressful spring semester. It is amazing that we are already nearing February as it seems that time just seems to get away. I want to thank everyone for all their hard work that has been put in so far this year and I know that hard work will definitely pay off this spring. As I said last week, I want to encourage everyone to maintain a positive perspective as we move into the testing season and all the activities that go along with this time of year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if there is anything we can do to help things go as smooth as possible.
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication on behalf of our students at LISD!!

NWEA Testing
South Elementary students were seen taking the NWEA test. NWEA’s assessments are called Measures of Academic Progress. When taking these computerized adaptive tests, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions. As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult. If the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier. The tests are tailored to a student's current achievement level. The computer adjusts the difficulty of the questions so that each student takes a unique test. This gives each student a fair opportunity to show what he or she knows and can do. The assessments are used to measure student’s progress or growth in school. LISD educators use this information to help them guide instruction in the classroom, and it is communicated to parents in parent conferences. Thank you, LISD educators, for always finding the best ways to understand your student's unique learning needs!

All-State Choir and All-State Concert Band Honor
The association of Texas Small School Bands is pleased to announce the selection of the 2020 ATSSG All-State Band. The top chairs in each region advanced to area auditions held this past weekend across the state, and only 280 of the 2,288 students were selected for all-state honors. LHS junior, Spencer Owens, was chosen as a member of the All-State Concert Band. Owens plays the trombone and is a private student of Bruce Keeling and a student of LHS Band Director, Mr. Will Burks. Spencer will perform with the All-State Concert Band on February 5th in San Antonio.
And the LHS Choir had ten students participate in the Area West TMEA All-State Auditions this weekend with LHS Choir Director, Mrs. Deborah Payne. Congratulations to LHS senior Haley Perez for earning 3rd chair in the Soprano section; LHS sophomore Machayla Parkinson, for placing 5th chair in the Soprano section; and, LHS freshman Lizzie Corley, for placing 3rd chair in the Alto section. Haley and Lizzie are private voice students with Jan Sisson Nugent. Machayla studies with Melissa Orta. The All-State Choir Concert is also February 15th in San Antonio. Congratulations to these hard working students!
