At the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 Board of Education meeting on February 28, 2022 the Board of Education approved Mrs. Sheleah Blissett as the new Director of Special Education. After 9 years with District 123 Mrs. Cynthia Riha will be retiring this July. Mrs.
Teachers, parents, and students across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of District 123 schools.
On March 2, 2022 Hometown School offered a Title 1 funded event for families. This event was focused on different literacy skills. Families entered the luau and were sent on a rotation where they either played games where they needed to build words using digraphs (th, sh, ch, wh, ck), blends or CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words.

The 5th grade teachers at Kolmar could not be prouder of their students' hard work and dedication when it came to their historian presentations this year. Students got to choose a famous historical figure to research and do their project on. They gained awesome researching skills and practiced taking notes.
The second trimester has come and gone for the 2021/2022 school year and the third grade team at Hannum thought this was something to celebrate. OLHMS Mustangs were able to participate in the Trimester 2 All-School Olympics for their incredible hard work during the trimester! Dr. McNichols, Dr. Hantson, and the PBIS Universal team planned a grand celebration to commemorate the students of OLHMS and their continuous dedication to their academics, positive behavior, and involvement in their school.
For the last several weeks, students have been learning about Black History month. From the Civil War to Civil rights students have learned about Black activists who have helped write history with non-violence. The past several years at Covington we have talked about how Words are Power.
Mrs. Lee's Art Classroom explodes with positivity and inspiration. "This is my first year teaching art in an elementary school, and I just love everything about Sward. I have become very attached to my students." When asked about her classroom, Mrs. Lee discussed the importance of routine and having a positive mindset for learning.
