Kindergarten Prep - November 19
K-Prep is for children that will be entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2020. Fun, age-appropriate activities will be provided to focus on Kindergarten readiness. K-prep will provide children an opportunity to get used to the layout of their school, as well as get to know some of their future classmates.
Come and join Mrs. Frazier, Ms. Stanley, and Mrs. Owensby for some fun, hands-on learning activities to help your child get ready for Kindergarten. Our next K-Prep night is November 19th from 6-7 PM in Room 247. Come in the north elementary doors.
The November Reading Challenge
In November, the library is celebrating a Book Feast!
K-3 students will be given punch cards to keep track of how many books they read, and for every 5 books they read (or have someone at home read to them), they will receive a prize from local restaurants!
Students in grades 4-5 will be given an over-sized bookmark to record the chapter books they read to themselves. Every time they bring the bookmark to the library to show they’ve finished a book and answered the questions, they will receive a prize from local restaurants!
Special thanks to Ms. Lamkin for getting some really excellent donations for prizes, and another BIG thanks to the restaurants that donated: Incredible Pizza, Bambino’s, Colver’s, Big Slice, and BYOPizza!

Lunch at Pershing
Eating lunch with your student is a special event. Here is the protocol.
- Check in at the office and wear your visitor badge.
- Wait in the Learning Lounge (the red carpet area) for your class to arrive to join your student for lunch.
- Please do not walk up and down the halls or wait outside your child's classroom. This is very distracting for the students.
- Please eat at the parent table for lunch with your student.
- K-2 Lunch is 12:10-12:40
- 3-5 Lunch is 12:35-1:05

The Counselor's Corner
During the month of November, we will be focused on Bullying Prevention. All students, K-5th, will focus on the importance of kindness and how our actions affect others. Students will have a strong understanding of what bullying is and what we can do when we see or hear it. One skill that I feel is incredibly valuable for students, is for them to know that they have the power to be an “Upstander” and help other students when they see them being bullied.
To make sure that all students have a solid understanding of what bullying is, they will all be learning the acronym S.T.O.P. This stands for:
Several
Times
On Purpose
Power based
Please check in with your student to see what they are learning about Bullying Prevention in the upcoming month.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or email me at any time.

Pershing Nurse News
Messages from the Health Office!
We want to thank the elementary families who have donated underwear and sweat pants to our Health Office. This has been a tremendous help when our “littles” have an accident or get their clothes wet at recess!
We want to remind families to continue to monitor their students for illness as we enter the winter months: Ill students who stay home help keep our school Healthy! This time of year is also a good time to revisit good hand washing and “sneeze in your sleeve” practices at home. Know that we are also working with your student on it at school too! Thank you.
Finally, we have one more opportunity at Pershing for students to receive their flu immunization free of charge. In the next two weeks, we will be having a make-up flu immunization clinic. Please contact the school nurse if you wish for your student to participate: 523-2430.
Thank you! Nurse Farrow, and Nurse Amy
