Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 25th January 2019
Our First Reading Stars
Congratulations
We are delighted that we have been able to award the first 'Reading Star' awards of the year this week. Congratulations to Hannah, Owen, Zoe and George who are now working towards being a 'Reading Champion'. We hope that every child in the main school will achieve the award this year and are really pleased with the attitude that the children are showing towards this challenge.
Thank You
A huge thanks for the donations towards 'Inspired for Sport', the organisation that arranged for the visit from triathlete Lucy Hall. We raised £250! The children's prizes are on the way and should be with us shortly.
Preparing for Christingle
Christingle Service
We hope all the children enjoyed making their Christingles today with volunteers from the Cathedral. Our grateful thanks to them and also to Booths supermarket who kindly donated all the oranges for the third year running. We are looking forward to using the Christingles on Monday evening in our 5pm service. Please remember that we will look after the children (Reception to Year 6) after school, including serving a baked potato tea, before heading up to the Cathedral for the service.
You are warmly invited to join us in the Cathedral for this very special service. Children will go home with parents from the Cathedral at 5.30pm so if you cannot attend the service, please make sure you come to the Cathedral not school for pick up.
Nursery children will not be staying after school as we feel this would be rather a long day for them all. However, it would be lovely if parents brought them along to the service themselves.
Creating a Big frieze
We are looking forward to sharing the finished frieze later in the term.
Learning at Home Letters
'Lockdown' Practice
All schools are advised to have a lockdown procedure. It is used when it is necessary to gather everyone into the school building. Scenarios when this may happen include if there was a gas leak, as happened near the secondary schools in Ripon last year. We even had the air ambulance using our school grounds a year or so ago! If we need to have a real lockdown, we may not be able to inform parents immediately as communication within school and with emergency services will be the priority. It will be important to keep our telephone lines open for essential calls. We hope everyone will understand and be patient as the reason for any delay in informing parents will be due to our priority of keeping the children safe.
Spring Term Parent Teacher Appointments
We will send home the children's books on Friday 8th February so you can have a good look through them. You may have some questions for the teacher based on what you see. There will not be a pupil report this half term.
As Friday 15th February is a training and appointment day, school is not open for children. However, we will run Oscar's from 8am to 5.15pm. Please note that we were fully booked on the training day in October and had to turn away everyone who arrived without booking. If you did not receive the booking email which was sent on Tuesday and think you may require Oscar's, please contact Mrs Rich in the office.
Maximising our Learning!
Oscar's
On Friday 15th February, Oscar's will be open 8am to 5.15pm (£20 full day, £15 half day). Places will be limited to 30, and we already have a number of places booked and paid for.
It will not be possible for us to have a holiday club in the February half term holidays, but we are looking to open for a couple of days in the Easter holiday. This has yet to be finalised, so we will confirm as soon as possible.
