YEAR 4 NEWS
Year Four has been buzzing with exciting engagement for the exploration of measurement units of length. To grow our understanding, we participated in the Measurement Olympics! We have been practising our estimating and measuring by partaking in events such as the Paper Plate Discus Throw, Paper Ball Shot Put, High Jump, Long Step and Paper Straw Javelin. We had so much fun!
O’ God You create all people in your image.
We thank you for the astonishing variety of races and cultures in this world.
Enrich our lives by ever widening circles of friendship and show us your presence in those who differ most from us, until our knowledge of your love is made perfect in our love for all your children;
Through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Sundowner
Our hearts were full on Friday evening, seeing such a wonderful turnout at our P&F Sundowner and the Meet the Teacher event. It was lovely to see so many families and children enjoying time together and having fun, celebrating a successful start to the 2021 academic year.
I would like to thank each and every parent/carer from Year 4 and other grades for helping out on the night. These amazing volunteers ran the photo booth, the slushie machine, sold T-shirts for the Colour Run and raffle tickets to raise funds for our school. Our parent/carer volunteers are to be thanked and congratulated for offering up some of their time to assist the P&F with the running of this event. A very big thank you too, to Ms Pirozzi and Ms Ryan for their persistence in ensuring that every time slot for each job was filled with a volunteer on the night. A fantastic effort from all concerned.
Each grade has been allocated two events for which we will seek parent/carer volunteers to assist the P&F with various jobs. The jobs will never be onerous and often require only half an hour to an hour of your time.
We are appreciative of everyone’s help but I have to single out our P&F President, Andrea Ludvick for her tireless work in arranging and co-ordinating the Sundowner this year. We are incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated person lead our P&F and Andrea goes above and beyond to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that our children and families have a fantastic time.
P&F Meeting
On Thursday we have our final P&F meeting for the term. We have a special guest attending this week, Theresa McDonnell from the Catholic School Parents WA. As parents, you are all members of the P&F and as such are invited to attend our meetings each term. These meetings provide an opportunity for you to contribute ideas to building community in our school.
Our P&F meeting starts at 6pm, Thursday 25th March and we look forward to seeing many parents. You are all welcome.
Parent Survey
We are conducting a parent survey. The reason for this survey is to learn more about your experiences with our school and your responses will provide us with valuable information to improve our school.
Please be assured that the survey is anonymous. It is also voluntary but the more families that complete the survey, the more reliable the information will be. If there are any questions that you do not feel comfortable answering, you may skip them. The survey is translatable into many languages. On the first page of the survey there is an option to choose the language in which you wish to read the survey and respond.
Our staff will also be participating in this survey. All students from Years 4 to 6 will be given the opportunity to complete a student survey too, unless you return the slip on the second page of the note being sent home today, to withdraw permission for your child to participate in the survey.
The survey will close on the 28th of April which is halfway through Week 2 of Term 2.
We ask that you please click on the link below to complete the survey at your earliest convenience.

Naplan
This year, our students in Years 3 and 5 will undertake NAPLAN online, commencing on Tuesday 11th May.
Our preparations for this are already well underway. Our teachers will be working during class time to ensure that students are very comfortable with the question styles and formats before sitting the tests. In addition to regular practice questions, we will undertake a coordinated practice test tomorrow.
To assist students, parents and teachers to explore the test format and become familiar with all the tools and settings that can be used in the tests, there is a public demonstrations site available. All parents are invited to explore this site if they are interested.

Wellness Week
Last week we had a wellbeing focus in our school for both staff and students. Our students participated in a number of wellbeing activities from mindfulness colouring to yoga and every student received a piece of fruit kindly donated to our school by Spudshed, Joondalup.
We will continue to dedicate one week each term to focus on wellbeing, so watch this space for some wonderful initiatives that our students will participate in as we teach them skills and strategies to develop their spiritual, physical and social/emotional wellbeing.
Prayers
Children from two families in our school recently lost their grandfather and our thoughts and prayers go out to them in their time of grieving.
God Bless you all.
