Big picture

From Dr. Griffith

As we wrap up the first week of our new school year, I am extremely proud of the TCPS Team for their tenacity and creativity in getting to this point. I am also grateful to our students and their families for their support. We are working through a few technical challenges, but overall the week went extremely well, and we will remain RESILIENT!”

At the same time, I am reflecting on the tragic events that occured on this day 19 years ago. In some ways there are parallels between what we have experienced over the last six months as a community and a school district as a result of COVID-19, and what we experienced as a nation on 9/11/01 and thereafter. In both cases, our lives have been forever impacted by something we could not anticipate or control, and there have been catastrophic losses. And yet, we move forward together as a team, as a family and as a community, determined to do what we can to make a difference in the lives of all who rely on us.

On Monday we begin the next phase of our recovery plan, when approximately 5% of our student population will return to school buildings for learning in small groups. Approximately 200 students will be attending in total across all grade levels. Decisions about future transitions will be made pending my daily review of our county health metrics with Dr. Fredia Wadley

Thank you again, and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
