November 2022 District Newsletter

π¬ A Message from our Superintendent π¬
Dear Hingham School Community,
I had the honor of spending the morning of November 10th at the middle school with the student body as they honored our communitiesβ veterans. Sixth grade students stood along the hallway to honor our veterans to welcome them into the auditorium. Our middle school chorus honored our veterans in song. They stood in honor as veterans entered and filed out. Eighth graders also served the veterans and their family a breakfast. Later, in the day, I was honored to join our Foster Elementary School who also honored our veterans with poems and stories.
The lessons we learn from our veterans are important. We learn the value of service and the honor of sacrifice to others, our nation and our community. These are important lessons for our young people to understand. They are reminders that we stand on top of the shoulders of many who have sacrificed so much for us, whether it is our veterans, our first responders, or our families. It is also a testament to the strength and power we can have when we work in honor of all in our community.
Our community has had many accomplishments to celebrate this past month including a new elementary school building project and our Division One Girls Soccer State Champions. We have also had our struggles and challenges. A testament to any community is our ability to celebrate our accomplishment but also to support each other through those struggles and challenges. Our staff, students, families, and community have done both these past few weeks.
As we move into a season of family gatherings and a host of community events, I am deeply thankful to be a member of the Hingham community and to work on behalf of our young people, their families, and our staff.
Thank You!
Dr. Margaret Adams

What is Mass211?
Every day, someone somewhere in Massachusetts needs to find essential community services, an after school program, a food bank, or where to secure care for an aging parent. Many face these challenges, but don't always know where to turn for help. The Solution is to Dial 2-1-1.
Mass 211 is an easy to remember telephone number that connects callers to information about critical health and human services available in their community. It serves as a resource for finding government benefits and services, nonprofit organizations, support groups, volunteer opportunities, donation programs, and other local resources. Always a confidential call, Mass 211 maintains the integrity of the 9-1-1 system saving that vital community resource for life and death emergencies.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Mass 211 is an easy way to find or give help in your community.
Mass 211 responds immediately during times of crisis, to field calls regarding the crisis and to direct callers to services most appropriate for their needs. If you are unable to reach 2-1-1 due to your telephone or cell phone carrier, a toll-free number is available 1-877-211-MASS (6277)
π¨ New Elementary School Building Project π¨
HPS is pleased to announce the passing of a new elementary school building project.
After an almost unanimous vote at the November 1st Special Town Meeting, the project was placed on the ballot for the November 8th election. At the ballot box, 72% of residents voted in favor of the project far surpassing the needed threshold of 51%.
Thank you, Hingham, for your overwhelming support for this project at both Special Town Meeting and on the ballot!
New Elementary School Building Project Update
The School Building Committee awarded the bid to K. R. Rezendes Inc (KRR) last week for the first phase of work at the Foster School for the construction of the new elementary school building.
The contractor began immediately developing the Storm Water Protection Plan which will then trigger the review by the Conservation Commission and Planning Board. This review is expected to take two weeks. Once complete, the site work will begin for Phase 1. We look forward to providing updates on the project throughout the year.
