Valley Tigers Athletics Updates
Baseball/Softball Season Follow-Up | June 5, 2020
The Central Iowa Metropolitan League (CIML), based upon guidance received from Governor’s Office of the State of Iowa, the Iowa Department of Education, the Iowa Department of Public Health, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, and the Iowa High School Athletic Association, has released its procedures for spectator admission to high school baseball and softball games this summer. These procedures were developed by the 18-member schools, which includes Valley High School, to help ensure that participants, staff, and spectators can safely enjoy both sports in a manner that promotes social distancing.
Here is what you should know as it relates to this summer’s Tiger baseball and softball seasons:
Roster Limits
Valley Baseball & Softball Stadium Entrance
All baseball and softball players, coaches, fans (home and visiting), and crews will enter through the complex’s south entrance, as presented in the below aerial image. This is the only entrance that will be available for use during games.
Please file in a single line and respect social distancing while waiting and entering into the complex.
Ticket Information
As directed by the CIML, schools will distribute two tickets per player in uniform and two per coach at each level to be used at that level throughout the season. This ticket will allow the ticket holder to pay admission or use a school-specific pass to gain entrance for the contest. The ticket only allows an individual to purchase admission, has no cash value, and may only be used at the venue and event listed (i.e. varsity baseball tickets may only be used at the baseball field for varsity game).
Ticket gates will open 30 minutes prior to the start of each contest. Tickets for the second games of doubleheaders at all levels will be sold to the general public, as Valley has room for an additional 100 fans at both the baseball and softball complexes.
Admission for all regular-season contests is as follows:
Varsity Baseball/Softball: $5.00
JV Baseball/Softball when combined with Varsity: $5.00
Lower Level contests (9th, 10th, JV) when not with Varsity: $4.00
This ticket will ensure that the individual may purchase admission up until the conclusion of the first game of a doubleheader at the same level. In events featuring a doubleheader at the same level (varsity baseball, varsity softball, 10th baseball, 9th baseball, and 9th softball), individual schools may allow additional persons to pay admission if space allows after the conclusion of the first game at their discretion.
Seating & Facility Operations
Per the CIML for combined events (JV/Varsity), the venue will be emptied after the first game. Individuals holding a ticket to pay for admission for both contests will only be required to pay one time. At all CIML venues, individual family household units (two people) are encouraged to sit together to help with overall capacity.
Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs in the event the bleachers meet capacity.
Softball Seating: Bleachers
Softball Seating: Lawn Chairs
Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or another item to sit on as identified in the areas shown, such as beside the bullpens, and behind the outfield fence. Please follow appropriate social distancing guidelines per family.
Baseball Seating: Bleachers
Baseball Seating: Lawn Chairs
Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or another item to sit on as identified in the areas shown, such as beside the bullpens, behind the outfield fence, and along Ashworth Road. Please follow appropriate social distancing guidelines per family.
Concessions & Restrooms
Concessions will not be offered at CIML venues, with the exception of Harlan Rogers Park. Coolers are allowed to be brought to Valley High School baseball and softball games for individual use and are subject to inspection. Coolers are not allowed at Harlan Rogers Park.
Restrooms will be available. Please use the facility as intended and follow good health practices and social distancing guidelines.
Face Masks and Hand Sanitizer
While face masks are not required in order to attend Valley baseball and softball games, fans are encouraged to wear one.
Please note that spectators attending games at Des Moines Public Schools venues (East, Hoover, Lincoln, North, Roosevelt) this season are required to wear a face mask; Valley's varsity baseball and softball teams will play at Lincoln on Friday, June 19.
Spectators should bring their own hand sanitizer.
Signage At Facilities
Livestream Viewing
This year’s baseball and softball seasons will look unlike any other, and WDMCS’ top priority always is the safety of our students, staff, and community. Valley, the 17 other CIML programs, and hundreds of other Iowa high schools are the first in the nation to participate in athletics amid COVID-19. Please help us this summer as we all work to enjoy Tiger baseball and softball games — safely and responsibly.
