LSC Parent Weekly
Week of March 27-31(Vol. II, Issue 32)
Welcome VIPs - Very Important Parents!
Let's celebrate our 2023 Staff of the Year!
Lead Teacher: Mrs. Alexis Jones
Teaching Fellow: Ms. Stephanie Edwards
Support Staff: Nurse Katy Ardis
This week we celebrated our 2023 Staff of the Year with robes, crowns, flowers, family, and a super-sized check for $1,000! These three dynamic staff members give their all each and every day and we are thankful to have them at the Eagles' Nest! We are proud of you!
Our next guest author visits LSC on April 28!
Jamarcus Little, a published author will be visiting the Eagle's Nest on April 28th during CCC to read his book for 1st and 2nd grade. He will visit kindergarten classrooms to read to each class since they do not have CCC that day. During his visit, he will be available to autograph copies of his book that he will be sharing with scholars. He will also share a Kahoot! and discuss the publishing process. Please order your scholar's copy of the book using the QR code and information on the attached flyer. We are looking forward to hearing from another published author as we are working toward our Million Word Challenge goal!

Bingo and Books Family Engagement Event a SUCCESS!
Thank you for joining us at the second night of Bingo for Books last week! We had a special visitor, Mrs. Hynes, from the Sumter County Library. She brought some very interesting materials and new books that are available for free checkout at any of the library locations. Scholars were able to add to their own at-home library and practice numbers to 100 while working toward BINGO! It was a fun night! #ReadBabyRead

Are you interested in Mentoring?
Do you have flexibility in your work schedule, love working with kids, and want to invest in our future? I have the perfect opportunity for you. Consider being part of LSC,
'"Eagles Take Flight" Mentor program.
Through this program you will be able to build a relationship with 1 or more of our amazing scholars (once a week, biweekly, or as much as you can for 30-45mins).
This is such an amazing experience for our Scholars to connect with another important adult to support in the whole child approach.
If you or someone you know is interested, feel free to fill out the application below and I will follow up with next steps.

Saturday Enrichment Experiences Continue!
As part of our two-year strategic plan, Vision 2024, it is our commitment to provide additional unique enrichment experiences that we just are not able to offer during the regular school day. To date, we have started a Step Team and Robotics Squad. We have even offered a mini-cheer camp! Stay tuned for additional offerings to be announced soon!

From the Nurse's Office!
Spring break is approaching quickly and I hope you all have made plans to make lots of memories whether it be on a short trip off somewhere or even with things to do right there in the comfort of your home. Our little community has experienced a tragedy this week that has cause a ripple effect of heartache even for those that didn’t personally know the family, just by knowing the hurt that family is experiencing right now. We here at LSC have prided ourselves on building a family oriented atmosphere for our team, our scholars, and even for our scholars’ families. We are here for you and please know that we are always available should you need our help with anything that you need our support in because it takes a village. It is instilled in us as parents to know when something may be off with our children and though we can’t always pinpoint it, we know when they need just a little extra dose of love from us.
Please, if you should ever feel your scholar is having an “off” day, please don’t hesitate just to say “extra love please”, no questions will be asked unless you want to share any information that may be helpful, but we will know to give your scholar that extra dose of love while in our care for that day! We are here for you and we love you! Please keep scholars home if they have had a fever within the last 24hrs and required fever reducing medication, any vomiting or new onset/worsening cough. Reminder, Nurse Katy’s lost and found is overflowing! I have a lot of items that are not Liberty uniform items and a few Liberty jackets/hoodies. Please email Nurse Katy at kardis@libertysteamcharter.org with a description of your scholar’s jacket and if it’s a Liberty item color/size of item.

A Quick Note from Dr. Ivey Regarding What's in the News about DeLaine & LSC
I am aware of the local social media postings and newspaper articles currently in circulation regarding LSC's interest in purchasing the former FJ DeLaine Elementary School. As an organization, we are committed to transparency and I wanted to share these three things with you.
- Even if acquired, there are no plans to move our current scholars to this facility in the near or even distant future. Acquiring this property is a viable option that is part of our long-term strategic plan to expand access to LSC.
- Even though charter schools are public schools, unlike traditional public school districts, we do not receive any facility/transportation funding from the state or local funding to help with facilities. If we are to grow, we must always be looking for additional facility options in line with our strategic plan to grow and scale up.
- We remain genuinely committed to partnering with the local school district to increase opportunities for all children. You can expect us to see this through our behavior in all that we do, because that's the heart of the LSC mission.
Please know that we will always #MoveTheNeedle by doing what is right for children. If you have any questions, please call me (803-316-7849).
In it together with YOU!
-Dr. Ivey
