JC4
The Jackson County Core Curriculum Collaborative (JC4) is one critical, complex component of a comprehensive Multi-tiered System of Supports(MTSS).
Our goal through the JC4 initiative is to enact effective, equitable instruction for all students.

HERE IS WHAT SOME TEACHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT JC4
THE Michigan Science Technology Engineering Math Network - MISTEM
Less than one year ago, Section 99R of Public Act 108 of 2017 legislated the state of Michigan to develop a Michigan Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network also known as MiSTEM. One specific goal of this network is to make Michigan a world leader in STEM education by developing and connecting regional collaboratives and resources. This effectively dissolved the previous partnership with the Michigan Math/Science Center Network (MMSCN). For the full MiSTEM Network report see Michigan STEM Advisory Council Link. Taking into account the national/state lens, local/county-wide lens, district and individual educator lenses is difficult to do, but the Jackson County Math and Science team are driven to make a difference. The consultants intentionally build relationships of trust with teachers and administrators through open communication, professional learning opportunities, and on-site coaching. As Michigan evolves to embed STEM on a multitude of levels with cross-field support, so too does Jackson County integrate STEM in meaningful ways for educators and students.
Gov. Rick Snyder's "Marshall Plan for Talent"
Fueled by the need for talented workers in the fields of information technology and computer science, manufacturing, healthcare and other professional trades careers, the Marshall Plan focuses on how we develop the talent of the future by increasing significant investment (the plan calls for $100 million in new funding) for career and technical education, middle college programs and equipment and increased spending in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It recognizes that many in-demand skills can be acquired through certification programs and two-year degrees. As a result, this plan will bring future collaborations and funding for our ISD, local districts, teachers, and students. This plan integrates and aligns with our JCISD board goals and our LS team goals. This plan validates that we are doing the right work with the right focus in Jackson even if that change process is slow and hard work.
HAPPENINGS WITH . . .
THE EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIALIST TEAM
- Participated in High Scope’s Comprehensive Assessment of Preschool Classroom Quality Validation Study. This is basically a pilot program to provide research for testing an updated Early Childhood Quality Assessment tool.
- Worked with Public Sector Consultants in Lansing to assist in providing a recommendation for Michigan Department of Education for additional preschool classroom quality assessment tools.
- Busy providing professional development at the local, county and state levels. Data has shown that Math and Literacy are two areas of concern for the children in Jackson County. In response to this, the ECS team created Literacy based training focusing on three out of the ten Literacy Essentials established by the Department of Education and Math Progression Training.
- Literacy Training was presented to Great Start Readiness Program classroom Teaching Teams and the Math training was presented at the Jackson Early Childhood Conference at Baker College. Each member of the team focused on a different Math concept, which included subitizing, sets and sorting and measurement. The conference was attended by approximately four hundred early educators.
- In April the Early Childhood Specialists will take their show on the road, providing math workshops at the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children conference in Grand Rapids.
