Principal's Message
We are excited to continue the tradition of celebrating Read Across America Week the week of March 1, 2021. Read Across America Week celebrates creating a nation of diverse readers. The goal of Read Across America is to uplift inclusive stories so that kids around the country can see themselves reflected in the books they read.
This year, our theme is Wild About Reading and we have selected the text, “A New Kind of Wild” by Zara Gonzalez Hoang to read together at Ashbrook and Bobby’s Run Schools. We chose this book because of the book’s great messages about community and friendship.
We have many other fun activities planned for the week and we hope you will enjoy celebrating and reading with us!
Friday, February 26th: Dress as your favorite book character.
Monday, March 1st: Wear a Shirt with a book character or about reading.
We will all read “A New Kind of Wild” as a school.
Tuesday, March 2nd: Students will work on activities based on the book “A New Kind of Wild” by sharing a book they are wild about reading.
Wednesday, March 3rd: Guest readers will come to our classrooms to read stories to the students.
Thursday, March 4th: Take some time to cuddle up and read. Please wear your pajamas this day. Ashbrook Elementary School will host Storybook Night.
Friday, March 5th: Dress Wild: Crazy hair, stripes, spots, animal prints.
Students will buddy up with students at the other school to do some reading-themed
activities.

Preschool Expansion
The Lumberton Township School District is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a Preschool Expansion Grant from the New Jersey Department of Education. This award will allow the district to provide FREE, high quality preschool to a number of our three- and four- year-old students. The district will be partnering with the Center for Family Services to provide free, high quality preschool to Head Start eligible Lumberton children immediately upon enrollment.
Families must meet the criteria as outlined by Head Start, though some exceptions may be made for families moderately over these amounts. These income guidelines may be waived for families with special circumstances who might benefit from placement in Head Start.
