Rock Hill Review
March 1, 2020
Opening Up
Our February Coffee with the Principal's meeting was held on Wednesday. It was another great turnout and it is always awesome to see the support from our parents. We know that this meeting time doesn't necessarily fit into everyone's schedule but we are planning to offer more informational meetings after Spring Break so that everyone has an opportunity to get their questions answered and get updates on Rock Hill.
Lastly, we had two great meetings with our students. The first was on Wednesday with our Class of 2021. They are starting to narrow down their graduation choices. This has been one of the most rewarding processes during our journey and I can't thank these amazing kids enough for all their input! We then went over to Hays Middle School on Thursday to meet with the incoming freshman. Once again, their enthusiasm was fantastic and that group of students combined with our students from Rogers Middle School will make an exceptional Class of 2024!
One other important thing to note is that we started working on a project this week with our students from the Eagle Nation News crew. Our goal is to start sending out brief video clips showcasing the overall progress of the project. This will be another way everyone can stay connected to what is going on at Rock Hill and highlight this amazing campus!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything and GO BLUE HAWKS!!!
Dustin
The one and only Mr. Ronald Planks is coming to "The Hill"
Here is a little more from Mr. Planks:
Hello Blue Hawks, It is my pleasure to be leading the Orchestra Program at Rock Hill HS, where the strings have wings!
I began my 21st year of teaching tasked with starting the first orchestra program in Prosper ISD in the fall of 2015 at Reynolds MS & Prosper HS. I am pleased that the community has embraced the inclusion of an orchestra program to the tune of 154% growth since its inception. I, along with our middle school orchestra directors, are excited about continuing this tradition at Rock Hill HS.
I completed my Bachelor in Music Education and my Masters degree in Theory-Musicology & Conducting at Sam Houston State University. In my spare time, I love to read, spoil my dogs, and explore music composition and production.
I look forward to helping our students realize their musical potential!
RHHS LOTE (Languages Other Than English) Department
We have our first (nearly) full department lined up for next year! As we mentioned last week, Mrs. Christi Wahnschaffe will be leading this great group of Educators as the LOTE Department Chair. Given that we have certain class requirements at both high school campuses, Mr. McBee, Mrs. Frenette and Mrs. Hudson will split their time between PHS and RHHS for next school year. With the anticipated growth in our District, these Teachers could remain at one campus or the other in the coming years. Nonetheless, we are excited to welcome all members of this amazing group to "The Hill!"
Each of them wrote a brief introduction, which is included with their photo:
Christi Wahnschaffe - LOTE Department Chair
I am passionate about teaching and helping others grow, and have sought to bring that love to whatever I do, whether as a mother, friend, or formal educator. This will be my 4th year with Prosper ISD and I love it here. Prosper has such a wonderful sense of community, and I feel so grateful that this is where we've landed as a family.
I have five wonderful children who are all pretty much grown, including a deaf son, which is one of the reasons I am passionate about sign language and languages in general. Communication is so important to everything we do, whether we are trying to understand, be understood, or connect with another person in any way.
In my downtime, I enjoy reading, movies, and spending time with my family. I am a master puzzle solver, and love to play any type of board/card game you can think of.
I am looking forward to an incredible year am so excited to be on this journey with all of you.
Alex Hudson - American Sigh Language (RHHS & PHS)
Paule Frenette - French Teacher (RHHS & PHS)
I am French Canadian from Québec. My husband and our two children moved in Texas 22 years ago. Our daughter graduated from Drexel University (PA) in architecture and she is working in North Carolina. Our son graduated with his master in computer science from UDT and is working in Dallas.
I am very excited for the 2020-2021 school year and looking forward to teach at Rock Hill High School.
Daniel McBee - Latin Teacher (RHHS & PHS)
After graduating with my BA and MA in Latin. I spent most of my career teaching all levels of Latin, Science, and coaching football, basketball, and baseball. My wife Tracy and I have two sons Noah (15) and Andy (13)
Amariz Acosta - Spanish Teacher
Jennifer Moreno - Spanish Teacher
I have a fabulous husband and two amazing sons. Both of my boys are in college. We moved to North Texas about two years ago from New York. We are enjoying exploring Texas and look forward to the many adventures ahead.
Andrea Retschulte - Spanish Teacher
While there, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to study abroad in Venezuela and Honduras. I have a passion for language and culture. Teaching allows me to share that passion with my students. I am constantly looking for new ways to facilitate language learning for my students.
My husband, Chris, teaches Percussion at Rock Hill and our daughter, Lyric, attends elementary school in the district. In my spare time, I enjoy running, traveling, and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings!
Elizabeth Dzvonick - Spanish Teacher
I have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a master's degree in Teaching from Centenary College at Shreveport.. I lived in Shreveport Louisiana for fifteen years where I taught Spanish, the last nine. Last year I was certified as a National Board on World Languages.
I love teaching my native language! My goal is to inspire students appreciation and curiosity for other cultures and encourage desire for life long learning Spanish.

RHHS Students at Work
This week it was back to work with the Class of 2021! During the meeting, with Representatives from Josten's present, the students spent their time discussing and voting on what the Rock Hill Graduation Announcements will look like. Believe it or not, this group is getting close to finalizing all the pieces they need for the Charter Class Graduation in 2021!
A survey was also sent this week for all Rock Hill students to vote on our Fight Song! Stay tuned: the song chosen by the majority of students will be revealed soon!
Please see the information listed in the upcoming events section as we continue to meet with all of our classes in the coming weeks.
If a student is not currently on the list to be drafted for the RHHS Class of 2021, the Class of 2022 and the Class of 2023 meetings during Eagle Time and would like to be, please have them email the Campus Secretary, Erin Jones (eljones@prosper-isd.net) so they can be added.
If a student is also drafted by a teacher during the Rock Hill High School meeting times, that will take priority over the RHHS meeting.
