Teacher Appreciation Week
Graduation day!
Time: 12 p.m.
Ceremony will be in the gym, followed by a little "soiree" in our classroom. Your children will be putting on a short performance, all are welcome!
This Wednesday - 5/16/18
The school will be closed to students this Wednesday, May 16th. We apologize for any inconvenience to your family. Many of us will be travelling to Raleigh to advocate for the prioritization of public education, and our state's children.
A Look at Our Week
Happy Mother's Day!! I hope that you have all been treated and appreciated this weekend, if you are a Mother. I was lucky enough to go to the LEAF festival this weekend with my boys and husband. It has inspired me greatly to bring more singing, creative movement, dancing, and storytelling into our classroom this week.
Technology: Students will be taking pictures of other students this week engaged in their centers at Choice Time. We will be sending these to Miriam Scott for inclusion in the end of year slideshow. If you have any photos of the class/kids/activities on your phones, please forward them to Miriam at mimsbee@gmail.com for inclusion in the slideshow etc. Kodable will also be available to them to work on coding, and I hope to have another visit from Dot and Dash (robots you can code) this week too.
Reading assessments are still underway this week, and our Math End of Grade Assessments are ongoing. Your children have worked so hard, and are so intelligent! You will receive information on these assessments in the final report. Keep up the rote counting practice at home to 100, if your child has not yet met this goal.
Math and Reading: We will be working in small groups/clubs during Math and Reader's Workshop, as well as independently. This is to support interpersonal growth, as well as getting prepared for the 1st grade classroom.
Writing: Our "Post Office" opened this week. Thank you so much for the supplies sent in by some parents that were press-ganged into it by their childrens' persuasive letters! If anyone has anything they think might be useful for a classroom post-office, please send it our way.
Choice Challenge Time: Choice Time is a plethora of self-selected activities each day. This week we will be having a "Construction Challenge", a "Playdough Challenge", a "Puzzle Challenge", a "Tech Challenge" (if any of you have any old technology for us to take apart with our screwdrivers and wrenches, we are in need of a new challenge!), a "Storytelling with puppets Challenge", and "Science challenges" involving sorting objects by materials, magnets, and recording the growth of our Sugar Snap Peas.
Social Studies: Leader In Me
We will be learning through roleplay, singing and stories about friendship, community and conflict resolution.
