Update from GLOBE
Safety and security | September 16, 2022
Dear GLOBE community,
We know that recent tragedies in Uvalde and across the country have put school security at the forefront of parents’ minds — and it has long been at the forefront of ours. While I can’t publicly share every safety measure we have in place, I do want to tell you about a few things we are doing to promote security at GLOBE:
We have tightened security at the door. Our doors remain locked throughout the school day, and we are being vigilant about ensuring that only people who should get in can get in. Please support this effort by complying with protocols for building entry — and not holding the door for anyone.
We conduct drills in accordance with Georgia law. The law mandates not only the type of drills we do, but also the cadence at which we do them. Before each drill, we talk with students about what to expect and how to maintain situational awareness. After each one, we create space for the students to talk about their experiences — and we encourage you to do the same at home, too.
We have on-site security. Like all schools in Dekalb County School District, we have a school resource officer assigned to GLOBE. (No elementary or middle school in the county has its own.) In addition to this shared SRO, we have invested in having an officer wholly dedicated to GLOBE — our head of security, Officer Mark Bollinger. Officer Mark serves both campuses and is a critical part of our broader surveillance and security initiatives.
I’d like to invite you to join Officer Mark and our Director of Operations, Cortney Flowers, for a security coffee talk on September 21 at 9:30am, which you can access via Zoom (webinar ID: 848 4878 8058, passcode: 351645). Between now and September 21, you may submit questions for Cortney and Officer Mark via this link. Their presentation will also be recorded for those of you who can’t tune in live.
We are grateful to you for entrusting us with your children, and we want you to know that their safety is our number one priority.
In community,
Christi Elliott-Earby
