Welcome Back to BHMS

The first month has been exciting at BHMS. We have a lot of great initiatives planned for the school year and we are excited to have your students take a part in them. We are placing a huge focus on student behavior the next few months because we realize that students must come to school and behave appropriately if learning is to take place.

We need students to understand that blatant disrespect and fighting are not acceptable

behaviors and will not be tolerated at BHMS. We need your support with this parents. Please speak with your child and help him/her to understand the reason why you send them to school everyday and that their education is important. We must have an environment that is conducive to learning every day. In addition, please explain to them that riding the bus is a privilege not a right and they must behave on the school bus as well in order to be allowed to ride the bus.

We have built into our calendar PBIS (positive behavior intervention and supports) rewards and recognition for those students who are consistently do the right thing. In addition, one of main goals this year is to reconnect the village. We believe that it takes a village to raise a child and we want to be an integral part of your village. Therefore, we are planning events throughout the year for parents to connect with our staff and school. Our first event, our Annual Title I meeting, occurred on August 29, and it was a success. You will see a few pictures from this event in the newsletter.

BHMS Goals for 2019-2020

  • Improve the climate and culture at BHMS.
  • Increase student attendance at BHMS.
  • Increase student achievement at BHMS.
  • Decrease student discipline issues at BHMS.

Parents, we ask that you assist us in reaching these goals by ensuring that your child comes to school everyday unless he/she is truly sick, reviewing our student handbook and reinforcing the expectations that we have for your child, and reviewing your child's agenda each night to ensure that homework assignments are complete. In addition, we ask that you have your child read 20 minutes each night at home. Increasing our students' reading and comprehension is a focus for the year and the more students are exposed to text the better their literacy skills will become. We have attached a copy of the student handbook and class schedule for you to review.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in helping us meet these goals.

Dress Code

Parents,

Students are only allowed to have clear or mesh book bags at school. Please help us maintain a safe learning environment by adhering to this policy.

In addition, we are having an issue with students wearing shirts that do not meet the dress code. All shirts must be school colors (white, maroon/burgundy, or yellow) or a school spirit shirt only. Please help us by making sure that your child is following the dress code.

Thanks

T-Shirt Sales

Parents,

we are still selling BHMS t-shirts. The cost is $10 for sizes Small through Large. Sizes Extra Large and up are $15. Your child may purchase a t-shirt through their homeroom teacher or you may stop the school to make a purchase.

Thanks for your support!

Lockers

Parents,

If you have not already done so, we need you to purchase a locker for your child for $5.00. Many students are losing their materials for class and thus this is causing them to not be successful. Lockers are one simple way to help students stay organized and keep up with their belongings. Please have them purchase a locker as soon as possible from their home room teacher.
