Septembre à Décembre: The First Quarter
Bonjour les familles!
Already, we’ve arrived in December! We hope your experience thus far has been one of learning and growing. Whether you are a family new to Kindergarten or a 5th grade family thinking ahead to middle school, each year at Charlemagne provides key components of our twelve-year program.
You’ve probably already noticed how your student’s French has progressed this year and how our model works to effectively build students’ skills as they engage in their bilingual journey. This model built the capacity of a generation of “Frenchies” in Eugene and our work continues.
As a former history teacher, I understand the importance of remaining connected to the past as a way of informing the future. Our school was established by the Eugene School District 4J in 1984 as an alternative school with the goal of educating global citizens. Next school year, we’ll be celebrating 35 years of French Immersion in Eugene—amazing!
The goals of our program have not changed, though our global context is vastly transformed. We know an immersion education:
-- Engages students in higher level thinking, challenging them to problem solve, think critically, creatively, and innovatively, to evaluate, and to make important decisions.
-- Involves students in learning experiences and opportunities that positively impact their personal development, character and citizenship in their schools and community.
-- Broadens students’ cultural life through access to literature, art, music and theatre in another language and across continents.
-- Enhances and encourages the joy of lifelong learning.
The legacy of French Immersion is one to be celebrated. And, every day, we are working hard to ensure your student has the most robust experience possible to reach their very highest potential. Thanks for joining us!

Thanks for Your Support
We are immensely proud of the work we do at Charlemagne French Immersion Elementary. Our focus is on educating future global citizens who are becoming proficient in a second language… and every day, with your support, our important work impacts students’ lives in countless ways.
Much of our success as a school is directly attributable to our community’s ability to collaborate, coming together in a crucial effort to keep class sizes low, provide additional language supports, and bring francophone culture to our classrooms via our Amity interns. As a result, we are a top-performing school in the state with a unique focus on bilingual education.
To keep our work going, in this season of giving, we hope you will consider a generous donation to the Charlemagne PTO, our non-profit organization. Your contribution insures an outstanding experience for every French Immersion student.
Your tax-deductible donation can be made in two ways:
-- Go online to https://squareup.com/store/charlemagnePTO.
-- Send a check to Charlemagne PTO at the school: 3875 Kincaid Street, Eugene, OR., 97405.
For your records, our tax ID number is 46-1825220.
We recognize that not every family can contribute equally to a direct drive request. We also know our families give in myriad ways and are grateful for time spent in classrooms and at community events. All types of support add up in our school!
Every day, I am grateful to be a part of our caring Charlemagne community and can clearly see just how our immersion approach benefits students. Merci mille fois pour votre générosité et votre engagement envers notre école!
