PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
Health Canteen Strategy
I am pleased to announce that after a great deal of work from a working partnership with canteen staff, P&C and the school we have been signed off and awarded The Healthy School Canteen Badge and Certificate. The NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy is a key initiative to support the Premier’s Priority to tackle childhood obesity. Having a healthy canteen means that our students are more likely to develop healthy eating habits that will have a long-term impact on improving their lives. The Strategy is all about giving students across NSW a taste for healthy foods and to make the healthy choice. For more information about the Strategy go to : hhtps://healthyschoolscanteens.nsw.gov.au.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN CLASSROOMS
Colours of Berala
Don't forget Colours of Berala will be happening on Wednesday 6 November. There will be some great performances, which will start at 11.30am. Students are encouraged to come in traditional costume from their cultural background.
We will be selling food on the day. If you are able to provide food on the day for the school to sell, please bring it to the staff room on the morning of Colours of Berala. Money raised goes to important school projects.
We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.
the new playground equipment
Our new playground has been installed and is looking fantastic. Everyone has been excited seeing the progress over the last couple of weeks. The students were itching to get on and try it all out, especially the climbing ball.
Finally, this week the fence was taken away and everyone could start using the equipment.
Each class has had a turn exploring the equipment and understanding the rules to ensure everyone is safe when playing on it.
Students are not allowed on the equipment before or after school as there is no teacher supervision. If parents could ensure that their children are not on the equipment at those times that would be very helpful.
film by the banks
It was a great day at Film by the Banks. Our film crew felt like real Hollywood stars, walking the red carpet and seeing themselves on the big screen. The crew had made a great film capturing the theme of 'Spy Catchers'. We're not sure if the teachers were happy being caught out by our intrepid spies.
Congratulations to the film crew of Ceydra (St 2 Bondi), Hala (St 2 Gundagai), Rema, Serene, Sara and Suelayma (St 2 Pemulwuy), Ella and Malak (St 2 Killara) and Sara and Aleeya (St 2 Terrigal. A big thank you to Miss Hudson and Miss Pender for co-ordinating and supporting the group.
chinese spectacular
On Tuesday 2 October our Chinese Waist Drum troupe performed at the Chinese Language Spectacular at the Sydney Town Hall.
The night showcased performances from schools where Chinese language is taught.
Our Waist Drummers, led by Ms Xu, opened the evening.
Congratulations to everyone involved and especially to Ms Xu and the parents who accompanied the student during the day.
2020 Kindergarten Enrolments
We have now completed our Kindergarten 2020 orientation days. They have been a great success. The parents have enjoyed hearing about school for 2020 and the children are excitied about coming to school. Thank you to Mrs Coco and the Early Stage 1 team for their hard work geting things ready for the new boys and girls and for the mums and dads.
If you know of any families, in our area, who have children who will turn 5yrs of age by 31 July 2020, let them know they can come to the school Office to enrol.
State Drama Festival
On Thursday 24th October the Drama Club ventured all the way to the Seymour Centre to proudly represent Berala Public School at the State Drama Festival. The students performed a piece they have been working on all year titled, 'Gold - A Journey Through the Ages' centred around the ups and downs of Australia's Gold Rush.
The students involved have worked tirelessly to make this performance the best it can possibly be and they certainly delivered on the day. Getting many laughs from the audience and truly shining under the stunning stage lights, the students were thrilled to perform and entertain others.
It was, however, no easy task to get to the State Drama Festival! The students had to perform at two other events including In The Spotlight Drama Festival before being selected to perform on Thursday.
The Drama Club is incredibly proud of this years achievements and look forward to performing at upcoming school events!
A big thanks you to Miss Casey and Mrs Nash on their hardwork preparing the students for this event.
east hills dance festival
On Monday 28 October our Magnificent Movers, Dynamic Dancers and Vietnamese Dance group attended the East Hill Dance Festival. Another triumph of a performance by our students. Our dancers wowed the audience and they were all a credit to the school and to their families.
Congratulations on a job well done and congratulations to Mr Harkness, Miss Lien, Mrs Vragalis and Ms Tran for preparing the students so well for this performance.
2019 School Spectacular
On Wednesday 30 October our choir attended the first rehearsal for the 2019 School Spectacular. It was a great day even though it was quite long and the students were exhausted by the time they return.
Congratulations to all, it looks like it will be a great Spectacular this year. Thank you to Mr Sandwell and Ms Pollock for accompanying the students.
