Message from Dr. Kaminski
Our first week back from Spring Break was outstanding. It took a few days for the kiddos to awaken from their restful week, but now they are supercharged and ready to go. As you know, the second portion of ISTEP begins next week and will continue through the first week of May for all 3rd and 4th graders. They won't test that entire time, so parents look for details from your classroom teacher. Remember, the best support you can offer your child during testing is to get outside and play after school, get a great night of sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast. We also ask that you simply request that your child do the best they can possibly do!
As we head into the final 30 days of school next week the Collaboratory (MakerSpace) is getting dry on materials. We would love to start collecting for the final days and start of next year. Please see the list below for any donation you may want to make to ensure our BSE Bears have materials to construct, create, and apply their thinking. Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Kussy for the endless wood scraps that are ALWAYS in high demand. Thanks again for turning these into the front office, not the classroom teacher.
A few parents have asked me about our China partner school recently. I wanted to remind everyone that our partners are unable to travel to the US this August. Instead we will welcome a group of Chinese students, from a destination unknown just yet, for one full day in early August. Our Chinese friends are excited to experience our school and we are excited to meet them and learn much about their culture and experiences. There will be more to come this summer when I get the final details. In the meantime, we principals are talking about a return trip to China. This trip might involve the assistant principal, staff member(s), parent(s), and student(s). There is much to figure out around this possible trip, but very exciting!
Remember to remind your friends with kindergarten age students that our Kindergarten Open House is Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM!
Enjoy the beautiful Friday afternoon and I hope the weather doesn't disrupt your Saturday. Thank you all for the support you offer our BSE Staff and Bears!

News from the Clinic: HEAD LICE
From time to time a case of head lice is reported to the school throughout the year. Should a case of head lice be brought to the school’s attention, the school nurse will maintain confidentiality of the student’s identity and assist the staff and parents with educational material. While the odds of your son or daughter developing a case of head lice are relatively small, the following includes information on head lice and the signs and symptoms. You may also find more information by going to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website at http://www.cdc.gov and click here for Head Lice 101 information.

SafeVisitor Badges
EVERYONE who wants to volunteer at any of the HSE schools much have a background check on file. Three is a fee associated with this process. Once approved, the background check is good for all HSE schools and lasts three years. Click here to start the process.
Also, per HSE Policy, visitors must have their SafeVisitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the SafeVisitor App (iPhone/Android) or have your badge available when you come into the school. Looking up names occasionally leads to signing in the wrong guest.
Upon leaving the school, please turn your printed badge in to the office staff for quick check-out.
