How do families find out about weather cancellations?
To check information about school being delayed, dismissed early or cancelled, you can:
Call: The District Information Line at 386-4777. HINT: If you save it to your phone your kids can check it and not bother you at 6 am.
Watch: WCCO (Ch 4), KSTP (Ch 5), FOX (Ch 9), KARE (Ch 11), KEYC (Ch 12)
Listen: KMSU (89.7 FM), KXLP (94.1 FM), KDOG (96.7 FM), KEEZ (99.1 FM), KXAC (100.5 FM), KRRW (101.5), KYSM (103.5 FM), WCCO (830 AM), KTOE (1420 AM)
PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE TO SEE IF SCHOOL IS CANCELLED OR RELEASING EARLY. Our school phone lines tie up quickly when an early closing is announced so be sure you have your Snow Emergency Form current as we will follow the directions you have given us on that sheet.
District text messages with reminders and announcements. You can receive text messages to remind you about things such as two-hour late starts and inform you of weather related changes. Subscribe using this link.
Please remember that ACES, our after school childcare program, does not operate when we close due to inclement weather.
* When the weather causes school to start two hours late, breakfast will not be served.

Do you have November 7 on your calendar?
Tuesday, November 7, 2017, is election day. If you would like to vote early, absentee voting is available at the District Office, 10 Civic Center Plaza, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents of Mankato Area Public Schools will vote on an Operating Levy and the election of three School Board members.
As a result of our Operating Levy expiring on June 30, 2018, our School Board has proposed to increase its referendum revenue authority. This proposed authorization would include an increase of $365 per pupil and would increase each year by the rate of inflation and be applicable for ten years beginning with taxes payable in 2018.
The most common question we hear is, “What will the money be used for?” The dollars go to people, programs and day-to-day operations. Here is a link to our Q & A article which will help answer that question. This is an exciting time for our growing school community. Funding will help us to continue our work and provide the resources we need for the education of each child, retaining and recruiting staff and our daily costs.
Please visit the District website www.isd77.org under “quick links” where you will find more information about the operating levy, a tax impact calculator for your property, and candidate information.
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact the District Office at 507-387-1868 or email maps@isd77.k12.mn.us.
What should families know about Influenza (flu)?
What is influenza (flu)?
Influenza is a contagious respiratory disease that can be prevented by immunization. It is not the same as the “stomach flu.” Flu is caused by a virus that attacks the nose, throat, and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness and at times can lead to death.
What are the symptoms of influenza?
Influenza symptoms come on quickly in the form of fever, dry cough, sore throat, headache, extreme tiredness, stuffed-up nose, and body aches. These symptoms can be severe and put you in bed for several days.
What if you think your child has the flu?
• Keep your child home from school if they have a fever of 100 degrees F and a sore throat or cough.
• Have your child rest and drink lots of fluids.
• Antibiotics will not help a person recover from the flu, because flu is caused by a virus, not by bacteria.
• Children may need fever reducing medications to keep their fever under control. Follow your child’s doctor’s instructions.
• If you are concerned that something does not seem right with your child, call your doctor or clinic.
What can you do to protect your child and family?
• Get vaccinated. Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu shot every year.
• Avoid being exposed to others who are sick with a flu-like illness.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, or cough or sneeze into your sleeve.
• Clean your hands often – with soap and water or an alcohol-based, waterless hand sanitizer.
• Do not share drinking cups and straws.
• Frequently clean commonly touched surfaces (door knobs, refrigerator handles, phones, water faucets).
Call your child’s school if your child is home with an influenza-like illness. If you have
any questions or concerns contact the nurse and/or health service at your child’s school.
For more information go to the Minnesota Department of Health website www.mdhflu.com.
Is Franklin looking for playground supervisors?
Are the final Walk-A-Thon results in?
Yes, as a school we raised: $10,840.68 through the Walk-A-Thon. 100% of our students walked and showed spirit during the Walk-A-Thon, with 44% raising money for it (229 of 515 students PS-5). We kept our Walk-A-Thon expenses under $200, so we netted 98.4% of what was raised to go toward the funding field trips, roller skating, academics, community building and more.
The classes in each grade raising the most money were: Blaschko (K), Hoffmann (1), Arndt (2), Alders (3), Fitzloff (4), and Kopischke (5). These six classes receive an additional $50 in their Student Activities Account for classroom items.
Want to share feedback about Franklin Festival?
If your family attended Franklin Festival last Friday, we hope you had a wonderful time. We would love your feedback on what your child/children enjoyed the most and how we could improve Festival in the future. We have a created a quick 5-question survey and would love your input. Complete the survey at:https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KMKJ9QC
What is the theme of the next School-Wide Theme Day?
We’re not sure, yet, as parent volunteers are busy counting Box Tops for Education to determine which class submitted the most. Thank you to everyone who submitted Box Tops for Education or even gave Franklin a dime. The class who submitted the most will select the theme for the Theme Day on Wednesday, November 15. Look for the theme to be announced by November 3.
Should I dress my child for pictures on Monday, Nov 6?
Yes, particularly if your child is getting photo retakes. However, all students may want to at least comb their hair as grade-level pictures for yearbook will also be taken on November 6. By combining both of these opportunities, Lifetouch is only in the school twice all year and it should help minimize the time impact to classroom learning.
To our volunteers...
Thank you so much to all of the students, parents, staff and everyone else that volunteered for the Franklin Festival. It CAN NOT be done without the help of our amazing volunteers! Over 100 volunteer spots were filled, countless hours were put in by parents and staff, and hopefully you all enjoyed the night and had some fun as well. "Thank You" for all you do for Franklin!
Want to give a shout out?
We are inviting families to email Mr. Olson when their child(ren) have a successful experience outside of school. The celebration will then be included in the morning school wide announcement. Ideas of things that families might want announced: winning a soccer tournament, moving up to a new tae kwon do belt, participating in the regional science fair, etc. If you have something that you'd like us to recognize your child(ren) for, email tolson1@isd77.k12.mn.us:
