Save the Date: Information Session on Becoming Certified as a School Librarian

Do you or someone you know want to become a certified school librarian? Is there an administrator in your district who is facing hiring a new school librarian in the next few years? If you answered yes to either of these questions then you will want to pass along the following information to anyone who might be interested.

Questar III School Library System, in partnership with SUNY Albany, St. John Fisher College, and the University of Buffalo Library Science programs, the certification office at Questar III, and several regional librarians will be holding an information session on December 18th at Questar III Central Office beginning at 4 pm. This information session is designed to help certified teachers learn more about the various pathways to being certified as a school library media specialist, and for school administrators learn how they might approach filling those hard to fill school librarian positions.

Barnes and Noble - Story Design Collection

Barnes and Noble is pairing ELA and STEM with their new Story Design products. The PDF below provides a detailed description of what Story Design is and how it incorporates STEM activities with books to create project based learning opportunities for students. SLS is interested to know if librarians and teachers in the region would be interested in a hands-on demo of these products. We are envisioning it to be an after school session with the representative from Barnes and Noble. SLS is also planning to purchase a couple of these to make a kit for loaning so schools can try them out. We plan to have them available for checkout at the evening demo. If you are interested in participating, please fill out this Doodle Poll.

Wondering how to unite the rest of the librarians in your district toward a common goal? Or are you just curious to see how others manage to do it all? No matter what challenges you may face, there is help. Join us for this four part series of workshops that will focus on program advocacy, budgeting on a district level, working with other librarians in the district, and more.

This will be a four meeting series held throughout the year. The first meeting will be held November 19th at Questar III beginning at Noon. All other dates and times will be determined by the group at the first meeting so as to meet everyone's scheduling needs. Due to the fact that this series is largely based on discussion, if fewer than five people sign up, the series will be cancelled.
