Proteins are most important for growth and maintenance of the body. They are one of the primary things needed to make enzymes. Different proteins give different things to the body. Antibodies defend the body from invaders. Enzymes speed chemical reactions in the body. Storage proteins store amino acids. Hormonal proteins help the body communicate. They include insulin, oxytocin, and somatotropin.

Some major sources of protein are fish, poultry, and other meats. dairy products and eggs are also good sources of protein.
