District to offer free voluntary antigen testing for asymptomatic students in grades K-12 Saturday, Sept. 25 at Hudson Bend Middle School
Dear Lake Travis ISD Staff, Parents and Guardians,
Lake Travis ISD will offer free voluntary antigen testing for asymptomatic students in grades K-12 between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 25 at Hudson Bend Middle School. Parents should use this link to review our testing process and to make an appointment for their child.
Please note, the testing site is for asymptomatic students only. Anyone who is currently experiencing COVID-like symptoms must stay home and should contact their primary healthcare provider or utilize a testing location that offers molecular (PCR or NAAT) testing. For your convenience, there is a Curative testing kiosk located in the parking lot of Hudson Bend Middle School, 15600 Lariat Trail, Austin, 78734. Appointments with Curative are required separately and must be made online.
“Screening tests are beneficial because early detection allows infected people to isolate sooner and minimize their exposure to others prior to becoming symptomatic,” said Becca Harkleroad, RN, Lead Nurse for Lake Travis ISD. "However, a negative antigen test does not mean you do not have the COVID-19 virus. This test identifies COVID-19 once the body reaches a threshold of detectable viral load. For example, if you are exposed to COVID-19 the day before or the day of a COVID-19 test, you may not have enough of the virus to be detectable. You should still maintain viral safety precautions including wearing a mask and maintaining physical distance even if your result is negative, especially if you have a known exposure to a person who has COVID-19. If there is still a concern that a person has a COVID-19 infection after a negative antigen test, that person should be tested again with a molecular test."
For more information, contact Becca Harkleroad, RN, at harkleroadb@ltisdschools.org or at 512-533-6015.
Sincerely,
Marco Alvarado

A Message From Principal Hicks
I have had the honor of serving our campus for 21 years. There are so many things I love about Lakeway. I arrive at sunrise most days and see the beauty of our campus surrounded by the Texas hill country. I believe I have some of the best students and staff members in the state of Texas. This is still true this year.
I know we have challenges facing our families, students, and staff this year that we have not had to face in the past. I am sending out COVID notifications almost daily. I do realize that the opinions of our notifications and protocols are very mixed among our parents. We also have the challenges that we have always had, such as minor injuries at recess or hurt feelings with the words our children sometimes say to each other. Please remember that with the new and recurring challenges that our staff and students are human. I truly believe every staff member and every student in our building seek to understand and to be kind to each other. That being said, every Mustang can and will make mistakes. Let us work together when mistakes happen.
I ask that you please reach out to your Mustang’s teacher, our office team, or administration team when you feel something is negatively impacting your Mustang. Please, first seek clarification rather than place blame. When you assume positive intent rather than accuse the staff or a Mustang student of intentional missteps, it really helps the morale of our staff and campus. When morale on the campus is up, the students and our community benefit. Please know that we wish to partner with you in challenging times and hope you will reach out so we can support your family.
Thank you for supporting all of our Mustangs. Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for partnering with the Mustang Nation as we all do our best to make it through these trying times. We love your children, and we love you.
All my best,
Samuel Hicks

SET A READING GOAL!
Parents, we are launching our FALL READING PROGRAM.
This fall, students are asked to set their own reading goals. Parents and/or teachers may assist a child in setting a reading goal. (An adult needs to sign off on each child's goal.) As students achieve their goals, they will turn in their goal sheets to the library. Their name will be added to the library bulletin board, and they will be allowed to select a way they'd like to celebrate their achievement from our celebrations sheet! Students may then choose to set a new goal.
