PR & Media Relations intern with the Virginia Historical Society
The Virginia Historical Society is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the Commonwealth's history, to link the past with the present and inspire future generations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary:
· Knowledge of African American History
· Experience writing press releases
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Must be outgoing and comfortable cold calling/emailing
· Must possess great accuracy and attention to detail
· Ability to address challenging questions with grace and tact including those related to issues around race in Virginia
· Ability to prioritize and thoughtfully plan work activities combined with a willingness to adapt and flex to changing needs
· Ability to meet deadlines
· Experience using multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
· Ability to connect with diverse audiences and partners
Required Education and/or Experience:
· Undergraduate student in a degree program for communications, media relations or a related field with a 3.0 GPA or higher
· High level of comfort using new tech interfaces
· Solid grasp of grammatical rules and great attention to detail
· Prior internship or work experience, especially in a PR or related role
· Interest in history a plus

Social Media and Communications Intern at the National Children's Museum
Qualifications:
- Prior experience with large scale social media campaigns
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-directed, highly organized, able to work without supervision and exercise sound judgement
- Professional, responsible, and courteous demeanor
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and Google Docs, previous experience working with Photoshop, InDesign, and other design tools a plus
- Familiarity with social media management platforms like Wix and Hootsuite
- Interest in museums, advancement, communications and marketing, and/or non profit operations
- If using internship for credit, must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program
Schedule and compensation:
- To begin early May and end Late August
- 10-15/hours per week (Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am-5pm) based on your existing schedule
- $500 stipend to cover expenses

Program Coordinator with National Alliance on Mental Illness Northern Virginia
Under the direction of the Program Director and as part of a small team, the Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating NAMI Northern Virginia’s local mental health education presentations. These important community programs raise awareness and share hope!
Specific Duties:
Coordination of Program Events:
- Coordinate, promote, and attend community presentations including: NAMI In Our Own Voice, NAMI Ending the Silence, NAMI Provider and other presentation programs.
- Respond to inquiries from the community about these presentations and other related programs.
Coordination of Program-Leader Volunteers:
- Provide information, support, and coaching to new and experienced presenters.
- Coordinate training, refresher events, and networking opportunities for presenters.
- Coordinate program-leader volunteer appreciation efforts.
Program Administration:
- Assist in the administration of program-leader volunteer stipends and expenses.
- Coordinate program data input into local, state, and national data systems.
- Assist with grant reporting for presentation programs.
Community Outreach:
- Coordinate NAMI Northern Virginia’s participation in community events, health fairs, and conferences.
- Assist with planning and promotion of special events including NAMI Northern Virginia’s YouthFest program and Annual Walk.

At 12+, we believe in every student's potential for success. We believe in the power of people to inspire and motivate each other. This is why we take pride in our team, who is available to all students in our partner schools throughout each and every school day.
With guided oversight from 12+ headquarters, Fellows are commissioned to create a college-going culture within our PLUS Center. Fellows are staffed full-time for ten months to create one-on-one relationships with students of all grade levels and to mentor, inspire, and empower students to go beyond the 12th grade.
