Keeping the Crew up to Date! Volume 2 Issue 24 - 2/26/23

Greetings Clipper Nation!

There has been so much happening this month that I was worried March might feel boring. However, as I look at the calendar, March is definitely going to start busy.

On Wednesday, March 1st, all 11th-Grade students will take the SAT in school as part of assessing readiness for college and career. There is no cost to the student for taking this test. All 11th-Grade students should plan to arrive at school no later than 7:35 a.m. that day, and must be at their assigned testing room by 7:45 a.m.

Students taking the SAT without accommodations will finish at approximately 12:45 p.m., with county transportation provided as usual for students who use it. Students taking the SAT with accommodations will spend longer on the test, and will be dismissed at 2:45 p.m., with transportation provided as usual. Bag lunches will be provided for all students taking the SAT at the close of the assessment.

For all other high school students, Wednesday, March 1st, will be an asynchronous day of learning. Students must check-in online for each class to be counted as present and will work remotely on graded assignments, following expectations for the day as indicated at the school level and in Google Classrooms for each class.

Then after school on March 1st, spring sports begin (you must have all the paperwork complete to participate), and then the Class of 2024 will be doing a fundraiser at Chipotle, so be sure to check out that flyer.

March 3rd is the deadline for students currently enrolled in an AP class to sign up to take the AP exam. On March 3rd, progress reports will also go live.

Upcoming Maryland School Survey

State law requires that all public schools in Maryland survey students about school climate. The Maryland School Survey provides Local School Systems (LSSs), the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), and families with valuable information about the learning environment, climate, and safety of each public school in the State of Maryland. The survey is administered in the spring of each school year as a part of the Maryland Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Consolidated State Plan. Grades 5-11 students and instructional staff will have the opportunity to participate in the survey which takes less than 30 minutes and is available in English or Spanish.

Students will take the survey during regular school hours between February 22nd - April 22nd.

The survey will ask students about topics such as student engagement, interactions with adults and with other students in the school, the school environment, bullying, and safety. The survey will not ask about a student’s personal experiences, and students will not be asked to provide any information that might violate his or her privacy.

JMB will be giving the survey during the week of March 20th For more information about the Maryland School Survey please see the attachment to the weekly message.

We are looking for parent volunteers for spaghetti dinner as we are trying to raise money for the class to help raise funds that will allow our students to have a memorable senior year, on average senior year activities cost around $20,000. Our spaghetti dinner is being held March 10 from 5:30 to 8 and is the only big fundraiser that the sophomores participate in for their class. For the spaghetti dinner, we are looking for parents to help with Decorations, food donations and donation of auction items. We need all the support from you and your child that we can get to make this fundraiser a success. If you would like to help with any of this, please fill out the google form and we will be in contact with you. The form can be found here https://forms.gle/fEzjZ26dL5VUT31K9

How to Stay in the Know?

The best way to stay in the know is to make sure we have accurate information on file. Please look over all the information on the Student Personal Data and Enrollment Information Form as this is the information we currently have on file for you. Make any corrections to the form in blue. If you need additional space for emergency contact use a separate sheet of paper. Sign the back of the form and return it to the school.
