Philadelphia region’s most beloved holiday tradition, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker….glittering sets and costumes, world-class dancing, dozens of young students from The School of Pennsylvania Ballet, and all the flair of a Broadway spectacular. Get lost in the story of Marie’s magical gift, a suspenseful battle between soldiers and mice, and the dreamy Land of Sweets….all in the enchanting setting of the breathtaking Academy of Music.

This event is FREE! Seating is limited and is on a first come first serve basis. Please hurry and RSVP.

12:30pm-1:00pm -sign in

1:00pm-2:30pm- enter the theatre and view the dress rehearsal

2:30pm-2:45pm- departures



Purpose: Social & Educational


Learning Objectives:


  • Students will learn about the history of ballet which began five hundred years ago in Italy during the Renaissance. In those days the Italian nobles entertained important visitors with elaborate pageants of poetry, music, mime, and dance. When an Italian woman named Catherine de Medici married King Henri II and became Queen of France, she introduced this kind of entertainment to the French court.

  • Students will view the live dress rehearsal for The Nutcracker.


Educational Hours to log into OLS:

Students may log 90 minutes in History.

If you would like to attend this event you must RSVP by emailing your FSC either lfitzgerald@pavcs.us or dgregory@pavcs.us by 12/2/13 and specify parent(s) names attending, student(s) attending, grade, teacher and any non-PAVCS student attending.



Reminders for PA Virtual Events!


1: In consideration of our students with serious allergies, please refrain from bringing nut (food) products and balloons.


2: As always, to limit the spread of possible flu, please do not attend a PAVCS event if you have had a fever within 24 hours of the event.


3: For safety: All students need to be accompanied by a parent or learning coach. All students must wear shoes/sneakers for the entire school event and please refrain from bringing pets.


4: If there is a possibility of severe weather, please check Blackboard the day of the event in case the event is cancelled due to weather.


5: All PAVCS events are tobacco free
