A Message from Principal Jackson
Hello Miner Families,
Happy December from the leadership team! We are closing out a busy month of engagement events!
Let me first thank our PTO for the amazing work hosting our annual greenery sale! They had amazing success and sold out on the first night! Thank you to all of those parents and staff who volunteered and supported. Your help made it a great event and helped keep all of the patrons safe and socially distanced!
Our first ECE Open House of the year and EdFEST this weekend mean that the school lottery season is officially opening very soon.
To our Pre-K families - now that you are a part of the Miner Family you do NOT need to re-apply in the lottery to remain at Miner. In April you will just need to complete a re-enrollment packet!
To all of our current 5th-grade families - please consider stopping by EdFEST virtually on Saturday and seeing our amazing feeder school - Eliot-Hine! They presented at the December PTO meeting and I am so excited about all of the awesome things they have going on over there for our rising 6th graders! Please stop by and visit them at a virtual open house!
As we move toward term 3 there are a number of things going on. We have opened a 2nd CARES classroom - this one serving our 4th and 5th-grade students. It opened on December 9th to support some of our scholars in need.
In addition, the Miner Community Core has been meeting to discuss the survey results from families on the return to learning as well as the various instructional models that could be used in the building during those returns. Meetings will be posted on the Miner Canvas page. Anyone is welcomed to observe but participation is reserved for those committee members - each selected from the leads of other elected committees. A draft plan will be shared in January - more details to come.
Lastly, Please have your students ready to join us for Spirit Week next week! The below picture tells you which day is what!
I hope everyone is staying happy and healthy this holiday season. Happy Hanukkah to all of our families who started their celebrations this week!
Stay safe and let the school know if we can be of any assistance.
Respectfully,
Principal Jackson

SCHOOL YEAR 2020-2021
Virtual Learning Attendance
Students are required to attend virtual learning each day, Monday through Friday. Student attendance is tracked by logging into Canvas each day. Please make sure students log in between 6am and 11:59pm to receive credit for attending. The log in must be through CANVAS to ensure the attendance is captured daily.
District attendance requirements still exist. If your student is going to miss school, please let their teacher know and send a note to Ms. Joseph via email at chelsea.joseph@k12.dc.gov.
Medical and Dental Forms
UPDATE: Families must have updated immunization in order to claim their in person learning classroom space if offered. Those who do not have updated documentation prior to November 9th will risk losing their seat and it will be given to the next family on the waitlist.
Reminders
Feeding Site (Updated)
UPDATE: While appointments at Miner will need to be scheduled moving forward, the school will remain a feeding site. Families are welcome to come between 10am-2pm for a meal. The cafeteria staff will bring the meal to families at the door.
