Band Contest Results from IGSMA
The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble traveled to Vernon Hills to perform at the IGSMA (Illinois Grade School Music Association) Band Contest on Friday. I am SO proud of the musical growth both of these bands have shown over the school year (so far - we're not going to stop now!). Many times I am nervous at contest, but I had a great time conducting our musicians. They were making music!
At band contest, three judges listen to us perform. Each has their own score card to make comments and rate our performance. They are not allowed to compare their response to us. IGSMA then averages the scores to give us a final rating. At rehearsal this week we will go over the judges' comments, the scores they gave us and learn how we can improve even more.
The Symphonic Band earned a Second Division rating! We received a certificate for the school and each musician will get a medal on a red ribbon.
The Wind Ensemble earned a First Division rating! We received a plaque for the school and each musician will get a medal on a blue ribbon. In addition, the Wind Ensemble qualified for the IGSMA State Contest. PLEASE RESERVE APRIL 24 & 25 UNTIL WE GET FINAL DETAILS!

Don't Abandon Your Instrument This Summer
It's February: time to plan your most musical summer, yet!
Make music and new friends this summer by signing up for camp.
My favorite music/band camps are:
U of I: ISYM
UW Whitewater
UW Madison
Illinois State
Blue Lake
Interlochen
Or sign up for private lessons. It's a great way to improve on your instrument. Lessons are offered through GBS and local music stores. If you need some recommendations, please email me.

Parents are invited to visit the band room.
Parents are encouraged to attend any rehearsal from 7:20-8:15 to see exactly how middle school band musicians learn and rehearse music. Even if your child is less than eager to practice at home for you, visitors will see how much our musicians love playing their instruments with a group. An audience makes it even more fun!
