Glenview Weekly Update
October 5, 2022
Principal's Corner
Glenview Families,
Choir Update:
As you may already know, Mr. Whitescarver has moved to the Jr./Sr. High School to serve as a music teacher and Vocal Music director. At the elementary level, we are finalizing the onboarding process with our new music teacher, Ms. Kate Coyne! In the interim, Mr. Whitescarver will continue to serve as Elementary Choir director until Ms. Coyne is able to start. We are excited that Mr. Whitescarver will be with us for one more concert, and that he also will transition the choir to Ms. Coyne. Below is a Google Form link to sign up for choir this school year for grades 4-6. We have also attached the Elementary Activity Form for your convenience. Rehearsal information will be coming out shortly, as we look to start in the near future.

Please be alert during morning arrival when dropping off your students. We do have a number of students who walk or ride their bikes to school, so please be mindful of that.
October 12th is Walk/Ride Your Bike to School Day. We encourage as many of our students as possible on that day to walk or ride to school!
Haunted Halls
- Haunted Halls will make its return to Glenview on October 28th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm! Please see the flyer.

Just Kids offers a variety of options, including flex tickets for families who need occasional childcare. Use the following link to register for the school year: Just Kids Program Please be advised that drop-off and pick up takes place on the Glenview Ave. side of the building. Please go down the stairwell to the cafeteria door.
Week of Respect
RESPECT is our Character Theme of the Month for October and we are excited that the Haddon Heights Elementary School community will again be participating in the statewide “Week of Respect” this year between October 3rd through October 7th. Throughout the month the students will be engaging in various activities and lessons helping them to define respect, learning to respect themselves, showing respect to others and assisting them to take a stand to help others.
Spirit Days During the “Week of Respect”
Thursday - “Be a good sport, don’t be a bully” - Sports Clothing or Favorite Jersey
Friday- “Garnet & Gold is Crazy About Staying Respectful”- Wear our school colors and the crazier the outfit, socks, or shoes the better; because “Garnets are crazy about our community and proud to show respect!”
We find your commitment and values that you hold as a family to be of the utmost importance. The best way to teach respect is to show respect! When a child experiences respect, they know what it feels like and can begin to understand how important it is. What better way to kick off the “Week of Respect” than to discuss your family’s values and how respect is recognized in your own homes. We appreciate your support as we focus on how we respect ourselves, each other and the environment. We thank you for your continued support during our “Week of Respect” and throughout the school year.
Book Fair
- The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Haddon Heights, October 17-22. We are so excited to have all the newest books that your children want. This year we will also have some time for parents to shop. We can’t wait to get books in students’ hands! We do need volunteers to help. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to Kim Peek (kimglot@gmail or (856)465-7245) or Lauren Parker (lparker3574@gmail.com or (856) 534-4249.)
- Information went home regarding Schoolstore.net. This is an easy way to raise money for Glenview and individual classroom teachers.
Sincerely,
Eric Rosen, Principal

Lesson of the Week!
Mrs. Harding's 2nd Grade
2nd Graders in Mrs. Harding's class learned about the steps of the Writing Process during a Create a Creature play-dough activity. They sketched a creature (Brainstorm), built the creature out of one color of play-dough (Draft), added/moved/removed details to make it more interesting (Revise), cleaned it up (Edit), talked to a friend about it (Conference), and completed a final version (Publish). It was a fun way to kick off their Personal Narratives unit.

Lesson of the Week!
Mrs. Lutz's 1st Grade
We are learning about animal superpowers in science. The first graders LOVE this. We made observations of baby animals and their parents, gathering evidence that they look similar because they share many of the same traits. In our activity, Baby Bird Rescue, we helped identify lost baby birds based on observations of their specific traits.
