Building & programming robots at Audubon Park School
Almost Half Way to Our Goal
We are trying to get donations on Donorschoose.org to buy 5 LEGO WeDo sets. These robotics kits are made for students in intermediate grades. They will give students a chance to build and program basic robots with LEGO's before they move on to LEGO Mindstorms robotics. Please consider donating if you have not already. Or pass the opportunity along to others that might be willing to help.
FIRST LEGO League Jr.
I have paid the money for the APS Robotics Club to participate in this years FIRST LEGO League Jr. season, Mission Moon. The students in the club and in Mr. Thomas' and my classes will do these activities centered around the Moon. The stuff we need from LEGO is on the way. We just need our LEGO WeDo sets to participate.
Middle School Students Working with Mindstorms
Luke, a student who took robotics with me at Glenridge, helped get some of the middle school students started on the Mindstorms this week. They began to do some initial programming and ran some missions. I was so impressed with Gavin, Ayden and Chay who got right to work even though they had to share the mission table with the members from intermediate grades. They began to program their LEGO Mindstorms to move all around the mission table. Gavin and Ayden teamed up and completed the movement module. They started programming their robots with sensors. Chay is right on their heels and will be using sensors soon too.
Calling All LEGO's
We are still doing our LEGO drive looking for any unwanted LEGO's. If anyone has old LEGO's or sees good deals while garage saling, we would appreciate them. These pieces can be used with the LEGO WeDo sets and LEGO Mindstorms sets.
Robotics Mission Tables
We get quite a line to run robotic missions on our one mission table. We need more. The plans are below. I spoke with two people at Open House and it sounds like we might get some. If we do then we will be moving the Robotics Club to another room. That way we can use all three mission tables and have room for everything else. I will post a note on the door and put it in another newsletter when/if we move to another room.
