All About Islam
The religion Islam is a monotheistic religion that is based on the teachings of the prophet Muhammad and beliefs in the god of Abraham. Followers of Islam are called Muslims. Muslims believe in Allah, their god. They have Five Pillars of Faith, which include Shahada, a public declaration of faith, Salat, which is prayer, Zakat, which is giving to the needy, Siyam, which is fasting during Ramadan, and Hajj, which is pilgrimage, or journey, to the city of Mecca at least once in lifetime. Some of the holidays Muslims celebrate are Ramadan, which celebrates Allah giving Muhammad a message, and Eid al Fitr, which celebrates the end of Ramadan. It is a time for gifts, food, family, and thanks. Muslims worship at a Mosque with an Imam which is their worship leader. Their Sabbath is Friday. They study from a Qur'an, their holy book. The holy city of the Islam religion is Jerusalem. Two of the most visited sites in the Islam culture are the Dome of the Rock and the Aqsa Mosque.
