A word (or words) from the Principal
Congratulations! We have made it through the first trimester (12 weeks) of Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL)! Your teachers have been working really hard to make sure you have a quality and engaging education from a distance. I am proud of the incredible efforts each one of you has made to make the most of this challenging situation. I hope you are all staying safe and healthy!
I hope you all are finding just having 3 classes every 6 weeks is more manageable than the 7 we attempted during distance learning for all last spring. We know six weeks goes fast so there is no time to procrastinate. Make sure you are working with your teachers and utilizing office hour to get help or clarification when needed.
Mentor/Mentee - speaking of classes. We are finding high absenteeism on Wednesdays during Mentor/Mentee class. Please set an alarm and make sure you are signing in. Mentor/Mentee class is important as it is worth 0.5 credits for career ed and is needed for graduation!
Our mission and vision here at Scio High School:
Mission: We the staff of Scio High School empower all students to be adaptable, respectful, and option-ready through providing a safe and supportive environment.
Vision: Empower students to dream BIG (Believe, Inspire, Give) in a safe environment. Dream Big, No limits, No Excuses!
There is no perfect time than during a pandemic and CDL to test our mission and vision. We want students to be ready for whatever life throws at them. We want our students to head out into the world ready to take on any adventure. So I will end this message with this: Nothing, not even Covid will stop us, Loggers, from being the best we can be.
Stay safe and healthy and as always, reach out if you have any questions or concerns,
Mrs. Blackwell

Climate Change with Mrs. Watts
This past term science class challenged your students to look at a place that matters to them and see how climate change has and is affecting the climate of that area. These were places they wanted to go in their future, places where they were born, or places where their families are from. These are some of the images your students included. Ranging from drying climates that are destroying forests and forestry industry to record floods. They were asked how we can change the current climate issues and find how people are affecting change in their selected location. They found numerous possible solutions and projects to help. I have to share with you that these projects were amazing! The students were thoughtful in their selections and were able to demonstrate their understanding of how various factors of pressure, temperature, and volume affect climate change!

Computer Science with Mr. Anundson
Students are learning a new language this year, and it is not Spanish. Students who are involved with Computer Science are learning to code using the coding language, Python. In this class, students are learning the basics of how computers function, some of the history behind modern computers, and how to communicate and read via coding languages. While this is a one-term class there are several students who have opted to take the additional semester's worth of work to earn a full year's credit while working by themselves.
We are fortunate to be working closely with Edhesive and Amazon Web Services to offer this class to our Loggers because there is a job market that will have an estimated unfilled job market in software engineering and computer science over the next 10 years (Amazon).
